In Mayfair and Kensington they are just another rich person. They can be close to anonymous and not live in isolation. You can crack on and live a normalish life. I

There’s not a cat in Hell’s chance he chooses us over Chelsea/ London. Location will always hold us back once a player has a choice. He’d likely get more game time at Chelsea as well.

Joao Pedro might not care about how many high-end handbag shops he has access to, but his wife/girlfriend, who might be a model or an influencer, brother, mother, and father, all tend to care about it. We have lost several players to London clubs in the past over it. It is not just the restaurants. It is about access to a community from their home country, social media opportunities, connections to modeling agencies, and other famous personalities - London offers much more than Liverpool and I presume Newcastle. 

 

I still don't get why anyone would waste away their short career signing and becoming one among the 70 squad players at the current version of Chelsea over Newcastle or LFC, but I am biased.

So many free attractions (British museum, science museum, Natural history museum ,Tate modern /Tate Britain, The Welcome Collection, and public spaces like the National theatre, The Southbank centre and British Library reading rooms) so you might not have much in the bank but you don’t need to be bored.

 

Countryside and seaside within 60-90 minutes depending where in London you are.

 

Most London boroughs give those on low incomes free/low fee gym and swim membership at their leisure centres.

 

Also it has more opportunities for education, training and job opportunities to pull yourself up.

The added bonus is that Chelsea’s training ground is in Cobham which, including itself, is close to other affluent areas such as  Oxshott, Weybridge and Esher. These are all within 1hr drive of London.
 

The big question is whether they will succeed at the club and win trophies. For over £100K a week on a long contract it is worth the risk - not everyone wants to become a legend and idolised by the club’s fans.

You'll only ever here from the players that care about this sort of thing and not those that don't, so it skews your perception.

 

Think you'd be surprised by how many of them aren't really trying to be out and about like that all the time.

Newcastle does sound like an intense place to play football. You are a massive local celebrity.  In London you can be fairly anonymous.

I get this. Some will absolutely love it, like you can tell Bruno does, but you can see why it'd be intense if you just wanted to go about your life.

There are much better dining, shopping, and entertainment options in London plus other differences. An important point is if he has a lass as they'd much rather be in London, all things being equal.

I’ve lived in London for years, got to defend it, one of the best cities in the world (though for the record I hate Chelsea).
