My operating assumption is that we have about 100m of headroom, give or take based on wages.

If Sesko had come in that would have blown most of it and necessitated that we sell Isak for serious reinforcements at CB or CM. Without Sesko, we probably have enough to grab Thiaw, Wissa, and maybe one more genuine rotation player.

I think we're looking at budget cover in CM and possibly CB because we want to go big on a striker and may need to consider getting two and we're looking to budget accordingly, plus its about raising the floor rather than the ceiling now we've gotten rid of some deadwood.

We definitely don't need to sell to buy, certainly not this summer, I don't know how many times it has to be repeated, we can speculate now and recoup later.

Very suprised we've heard nothing about the "showdown talks" between Isak and Howe/PIF

Not from any of the local journos and not from the usual suspects on X

They'll have had it all on lockdown I'd think. Isak has to work there for 3 years still and has been clearly told he's going nowhere. So shut the fuck up and do your job Alex.

No one can afford our asking price (if it exists at £150m too).

You would think his agent would be on the phone with Romano and Ornstein about how he "still Only wants Liverpool"

I'd be extremely surprised if the same people running the Saudi league has anything to do with the people following up us, and even more surprised if they acutally talk and collaborate together to align strategies between the two. PIF is just too big of a beast. I imagine the people running Al Halal or Bin Tittifad doesn't give a flying fuck if a player they want means a competitor of NUFC would get rid of a player they don't want and enables them to weaken NUFC.

I don't think that's unreasonable either.

Agree somewhat with the first paragraph and 100% with the second. Whether people like it or not, nufc are but one part of PIF's very diverse portfolio. It is extremely naive to think that we're going to be their priority. And beyond naive to think we'd be a priority to the extent that if another part of PIF decides (for whatever stupid reason) that pissing away £50m on Darwin Nunez is a good move for them that they would somehow be brought to heel and stopped because of the potential consequences for Newcastle.

Then what's the point...

Is it not a moot point though? If our chairman says "He's not for sale." And Liverpool are reportedly offering like 30million shy of his value and not willing to go anywhere near close then it's a done thing (for now).

Might have said something to his agent like there’s a chance he can go if the price is met and we get cover but if this meeting gets leaked we’re keeping him for the whole Shebang

Sorry - What am I missing about the "family day" trick?

Howe told Alex not to come to training in the morning, organised a family / team bonding day for everyone and their wives/kids, and then told Alex to show up for training / talks after that was over.

Showing him who’s boss.

Brilliant management, all that Isak deserved for not bothering to show up for tour

Ridiculous if we give Isak his wish if the best we get is Jackson.   PIF just have no fight in them and to me that signifies what ambition they have for us.

How long was it they kept knocking on the door to buy us? in spite of all the rebuffs and red tape.

Can't see that would be something he would do if he wanted to integrate Isak back into the squad.
