I really don't think so. If we don't give him a new contract, his value will tank because he'll be bummed out all year, and we'll have to sell next summer not on our terms. If he signs a new deal, we can sell him next year on our terms. Also, getting Isak to sign a new contract is crucial because we can add clauses to protect the club from a sale next summer if we do well this season, like qualifying for the Champions League, you know? Like I said, we could put in a 150 million release clause if we make it to the Champions League. If we don't, maybe 130. Like Ben Jacobs said, either Isak gets sold to Liverpool this summer for a price we like, or he signs a new deal. No other option. It's super important to protect ourselves and control whether we sell Isak, not him or another club. If we don't offer him a new contract, we lose that control. Do you think he’s going to sign a contract with a £150m release clause? Not a chance. He’s probably fuming we didn’t accept £110m for him why’s he, in his eyes going to price himself out of a move. This is what it's going to take, an official statement that they've pulled out or the window closing, while there's even the smallest chance of this happening Isak will continue to huff and sulk, once his options become zero he will come crawling back. et tu brute
Be quite funny if we got two high standard players in, reject Liverpool's bid outright and then on deadline day give him the ultimatum of signing for a Saudi team or not play at all. He would deserve that.
oldtype
If we get a bid that meets our valuation, we should accept. If we don't, he needs to be reintegrated and play. Letting him "rot in the reserves" or whatever out of spite is crazy talk. We don't have that luxury, financially or on the pitch.
GideonShandy
51 minutes ago, tarie4 said: It's all about control, yeah? We're holding off Liverpool now 'cause he's got three years left, and we're also gonna offer him a new contract 'cause he deserves it. So, we can play it tough. Isak signs with a release clause, like I said. 150 if we're in the Champions League, 130 if not. If he wants to go (and we're in the CL), they pay 150 million, simple as that. We stay in control, just like now. We protect our position. He has to sign a contract if he stays. If we dont get him to sign a new deal it's a huge screw-up, like when Mitchell bailed on talks with him last year. Seriously, a real blunder. Maybe i'm missing something. Suppose (however unlikely) that he signs a contract as you've described with a 150 million or 130 million release clause. Higher wages, longer term. Next summer Liverpool come back with another 110 million offer. Refuse to offer a penny more unless we "invite" a higher bid. Isak demands we let him go, goes on strike again. What have we gained? How are we any better off than if we'd just held him to his present contract? We've just paid him more money for being a cunt. What do we get out of this hypothetical new contract, except maybe a temporarily happier Alexander Isak?

We gotta use that to our advantage since we'll have all the power in those talks. It's a good time to lock down control over any future Isak sale on our terms. We can't miss this chance. I agree we don’t miss this moment. But he doesn’t have to. Should he? Yeah probably, maybe, even. But he doesn’t have to. Too many of y'all speaking in absolutes about things y'all don’t know any actual shit about. It's not a luxury though; if it came to doing that, it would be an important demonstration of the mindset of the club. I'm sorry, but we can't be in the business of lighting 150 million in PSR headroom on fire and letting 150k in wages sit on the bench for a whole season just so we can show that we're hard motherfuckers. It's not as if the ritual beheading of Aleksander Isak will stop other clubs from tapping up our good players, or stop those players from sometimes wanting to go to bigger clubs. That's just a fact of life we need to deal with.

It's not what would happen though. He'd play for us after he'd got over his strop and realises he needs to play to get a contract elsewhere. Selling him at any point this window without an adequate replacement will do more damage to our season than a bad egg in the dressing room, in my opinion of course. Fuck letting him go at this point, and fuck upping his wages. Edited August 12, 2025 by Wilson

nufc4eva
I suspect we will give him a new contract and be prepared to sell for 120 next year when he's nearly 27, we have a chance to bring in replacement and maybe it's better for PSR if we sold next year if we already have headroom right now. WinstonFC
I really dont want him going to Liverpool just doesn't sit right selling him to another PL rival. If we got in 2 replacements ( Wissa+?) I wouldnt be against the idea of loaning him out for the season. Hefty loan fee + option to buy next season 130m. Problem is i just dont see who abroad who would help that fantasy play out. With the above deal, it'll get to the final day of the season with us clinging to the last CL spot, 93 minutes on the clock and he'll dribble through his own defense and smash it into the net so he can knock £20m off his value. Just, no.

The whole way it's played out though, nah. Hope we keep him another year and would rather see him go to Bayern, PSG, Barcelona etc for £110-120m next summer.
