I've thought for a while that Liverpool were lead to believe that their original offer was pretty close to what we'd accept and were assuming that bid would lead to a negotiation rather than what seems to have been "No, fuck off".

 

Now it's clear they won't meet our price, Isak/the agent are windmilling to try and force our asking price down.

 

Perhaps I'm wrong in giving LFC the benefit of the doubt but it's just a feeling I've had as this has developed.

Immediately after seeing the statement I was enraged and wanted the club to respond with an emphatict statement. But on reflection, that would just create a media feeding frenzy of Isak/Liverpools word vs purs, they have the advantage when it comes to media mouth pieces, so that's not a battlefield we want to be dragged onto.

 

The smart move is the let him drip on social media like your aunt complaining about her ex on Facebook. Verbal agreements hold up in court all the time. But the promise has to be sufficiently definite to constitute a binding obligation and “we’ll sell you next summer if we get a fair bid” certainly doesn’t qualify.

 

(I’d also assume that premier league player contracts contain a standard “no oral modifications” clause)

I think it’s clear we told him we could leave once replacements came in. I imagine he would have left once Eikitike came in but that didn’t happen. With the shit show our backroom is I imagine it wasn’t communicated well and Isak has went off the deep end

Mitchell said no new contract because club had upper hand from lots of years remaining. Why would he give the player a release clause for free via an email?
