For the club, it would not change a thing, either on the asking price or his contract, both of which we need to hold fast on. For me, it would slightly change how badly I viewed him if and when he is reintegrated. If we really did promise him something and didn't follow through, I'd boo him a bit less. Though there's a counter argument to that in not washing your dirty laundry in public if there's any semblance of truth in his statement. I'm not saying I do want that response from him, I'm saying that if he's telling the truth the club statement pushes him into denying it and carries the circus on. Seems like a silly thing to do just to prove some sort of point. Its not just the money though, its the standard we set going forward on how players and other clubs can interact with us. If we have and give him to liverpool for 110, then whose to day in 12 months city or arsenal don't try and get tonali to throw his toys out of the pram to get him at a discounted rate. Liverpool have for too long been given licence to tap up players and I appreciate that were not bending to them.

They havent came anywhere close to it and its been about 6 weeks now That depends on how much they want to win the league and Champions League. The launchpad for their current success was paying a world record fee for a goalkeeper and paying a world record fee for a defender. In terms of age profiles of key players and who has left, their team looks like Man U in 12-13, the last time they won it with RVP added to a load of creeky players over the age of thirty. There is no Allison replacement out there, no Trent replacement, no VVD replacement and no Salah replacement. They have to buy elite players in other positions instead to compensate for the drop in quality Frimpong is compared to Trent, the drop that Kerkez is compared to Robertson, the likely drop in whoever is compared to Allison, VVD, Salah, .... If they aren't actually that bothered about winning the league or Champions League and are more into projecting some image of being virtuous and special or whatever like their fans love to think, then 150M will be too much. Optimistic Nut
Liverpool trying to pay £110m for Isak and have it justified as being a "British record so should accept", would have been like Blackburn taking £10m from us or Man Utd for Shearer just because it was way above the £8.5m Collymore record fee. Not because of contrition or genuine acceptance that he’s behaved like a clown but because he has zero other options. The problem then is that we have a player on our hands who’s mentally checked out, who resents us and who the other lads don’t trust. Very hard situation for Howe to manage going forward. We need this wanker gone as soon as possible really but how we do it and get the value we need is beyond me I think in the end we'll still come out of this looking good. He's going to have suitors after however long regardless, and this whole merry dance might well have just pricked up some more ears. I cant imagine we'll be getting no inquiries about what our next move is in however long.
Teslact
And 110m wouldn't be a record as a British selling club fee. They know they have to beat what they received 7 years ago.

TheHoob
Liverpool fans are a different breed at times. Just been reading one fan talking about Coutinho wanting to leave for Barcelona, saying that even though Liverpool initially told him no and they ended up getting more than they bid for Isak, he's sure Liverpool would have let him go for less as it's the right thing to do

wyn davies
Isak needs to understand that his career is very short and his agent also needs to realise this also. If he continues in this vane his career could ultimately be done and dusted as the club keeps hold of his registration and he becomes helpless. The bigger issue here also, rightly or wrongly future players will be made fully aware of the club's stance as an employer and like the rest of us do as we are told. We could sell Isak and be seen as a cuck stepping stone club. Or more importantly, we could keep Isak and be seen as a club who won’t sell their best players easily. We will sell but always on our terms. A club who has ambitions. Champions League 2 of last 3 seasons and a recent cup win gives us the confidence to kick on. It’s the hardest step so there will be up and downs, but it’s an opportunity that no other club in the country have available. PSR - even if we let him rot in the reserves for a year, we still be able to sell for £100m+ next summer, so minimal impact.

Selling him without having two in place would be even sillier. Can you really see a player at the peak of his career refusing to play for a year? Would be the epitome of ‘Before you start on a journey of revenge, dig two graves’. Edited August 20, 2025 by Coffee_Johnny

Seems like a silly thing to do just to prove some sort of point. Thats the argument being used by e-scousers and their media shills.... '£110m was a record breaking fee'. Maybe, but its still less than he is worth, based not just on Newcastle's alleged valuation (remember, £150m never confirmed by NUFC, just what the media thinks we want), but looking at other transfers this summer and recent summers. Midfielders are going for £100m +. Isak is arguably one of the best strikers in the PL and Europe, coming off the back of two 20+ goal seasons. So why should we accept less than Liverpool have just paid for a German midfielder, unproven in the PL, just because he's kicked up a fuss to force a move to a PL rival?
