I'm not sure we could have kept him under any circumstances, but I agree that Liverpool definitely designed rattling the fans into despising him and making sure there was no way back before any decision was made IMO, and it was pretty successful.

Player burns bridges with club, teammates, manager and supporters. Fans turn. Fans are at fault for him leaving?

If he was still here he'd still be on strike. He ghosted the club. Fuck him. Hope that baller breaks his legs smooth off. Hope his tendons fall off the bone like barbecue pork.

There was plenty of talk about the bedsheet outside the training ground not being a helpful development when it was tacked up there, like.  Liverpool completely planned to get He Wants A Move into fans' heads hoping they would turn on him and make their acquisition easier imo.  I'm not blaming the fans one bit (you know my take on it) and I personally don't think there was a way for us to hold onto him short of just saying "nah you're not going kid, grow up" but I'm guessing that's what LFEE is getting at.

Exactly. If he had just said "I want to leave" but carried on training, playing and giving it his all until a transfer was agreed, it would have been frustrating but we'd have moved on. The manner he went about it can never be forgiven or forgotten.

He almost certainly had an agreement with Liverpool all summer and a strategy agreed for how he was going to force his way out. The contract talk is just noise and the fan reaction to his strategy was irrelevant.

Not gonna bother responding to the stuff about the fans but it's still incredibly hilarious every time someone says "lock the thread and move on".

It's literally never happened in the history of this place (to my knowledge) and people still call for it everytime expecting something to happen.

Just learn to observe without reacting.

Him going on strike put the idea that he wanted to leave into fans’ heads

We couldn’t hold onto him because he made his position irrecoverable. But that’s nothing to do with fans, it’s to do with having a massive asset making himself worthless.

Yup absolutely obvious this was the case given they have form for what they did. Ultimately we still had to agree which we did so it was a successful strategy as far as they are concerned (and isak for that matter)

Oh aye them colluding to burn the bridge was the entire plan. If we'd held firm we'd still be in the throes of that plan instead of enjoying Nick and his potential.

Like I say, I'm pretty much in agreement as you probably know and I don't blame fans one bit for reacting as they have through the entire saga (I reacted the same way as most of us).  Just remembering that there was some "let's keep our heads and not be too down on him as a fanbase and see what happens" chatter at the time, not agreeing with it

First visit in here for months. Need to lock this thread and move on lads. He’s gone. Could’ve probably kept him if the fans had of been smarter in public but wasn’t to be. Let’s move on… at least until we visit Anfield

I'll be honest, you've been a wanker ever since you joined Sunderland.

The onus to rebuild the bridge was on him, imo. People reacted and continue to react appropriately to his behavior. The keep our heads stuff felt like trying to be the most stoic person on the sinking ship. Fuck that little asshole until he fucks off and dies or apologizes.

It's all down to the lad himself he chose the way he acted.

He could of trained with us and let his feelings be known he wanted out still. Which would've kept him fit and been available had his move not come off to the scousers, but no he give us know other alternative but to sell at a knock down price I may add.

I think supporters were hoping for some sort of resolution but he doubled down with that pathetic instagram post and from that point on we knew he was a rat by his own words.

I’m enjoying the gloss taken of his move by his shit form and fitness levels and I’m especially enjoying more these shit cunt Liverpool supporters trying to make excuses for him after baiting us all summer.

Fuck the lot of them. I’ve the popcorn out.
