I am pretty sure Isak is happy here, we play good football and he's at a good club. If we get CL football - which I think there's a good chance we will - and we can bump up his pay closer to what he would get elsewhere, then he will stay. t00nt00n313 Posted Friday at 13:19 Share Posted Friday at 13:19 (edited) I think people overate just how much players care about playing in the CL. Don't get me wrong, some players absolutely do want to play for a team like Real Madrid (if they think they'll actually be played) where they have a genuinely good chance of actually winning the CL and not just participating, but just getting to play in the CL itself isn't the draw people think it is. What I will say though is that if people overrate how much players care about CL football, they underated how much players in today's game care about having a very high salary and this is where I'm worried. We can't really pay isak the same amount that other clubs could due to FFP. I will also say, players want to be in a team where they are doing well as this directly affects their value and how much media attention they get. Thankfully isak is doing well with us at the moment so that's less of an issue. Edited Friday at 13:20 by t00nt00n313

There's a direct corroboration between a CL team and how much a player gets paid, so essentially the players do want to play for CL teams but only because they know that's their higher rate of pay. But I get what you're saying

Isak doesn't strike me as a player that is overly greedy about his salary, I'm more worried about the fact that he was in Real sociedad before us that was in a similar situation table wise. You'd think he'll get tired at some point at being in teams below the best teams rather than just being in the best teams. But hopefully we get CL and do better in the new format which should suit us better. While its a big ask, especially for someone from Sweden that doesn't have a local connection, I'd hope he stays and becomes a legend.

I agree I don’t think he’s the type of player who would really push for a move and seems to have an affinity for the club and fans. That said he’s 25, he could potentially add 100k to his wages per week and anyone is naive to think a player isn’t tempted by joining a club for a tilt at a league title never mind champions league. *the caveat being if we get champions league there’s no way moves

Sibierski Posted yesterday at 18:46 Share Posted yesterday at 18:46 That first time pass to Joelinton is a reason why we need to keep him at all costs. It’s just a bit of vision that 99% of strikers don’t have, let alone pull it off. Get more quality around him and few others please. Make the most of these great buys whilst we’ve got them. Whilst Spence was getting caught flat footed against Murphy time and again. So they improved at two positions. Spence’s pace worked well on that side against Isak and we struggled with that out ball and pass over the top that often works so well against Spurs. First half he was great, bar his customary glaring miss. None of our attacking players were up to much in the second half.
