If Spurs win we will never hear the end of Ange spouting his “winning something in second season” nonsense.

Still. That’s infinitely better than Man U winning it.

Really nitpicky post probably but its long been a joke/weird that it's called the Champions League like, when 4 or 5 teams from each country are getting in you end up with the majority of teams in it not being Champions of anything.

Either change the name of it, or only have Champions, be it league champions or cup champions (not runners up either, they've won fuck all).

I know it'll help us probably this season, but finishing 5th in your domestic league and being in the Champions League because of it sounds bloody odd like. (Obviously we did win a cup this year, so all good but still).

I'm aware it'll never happen, and if the same team won all their domestic trophies then only one from that country would qualify so some seasons you wouldn't have many in, but it shouldn't be called the Champions League.

I think the co-efficient thing spoils a lot of European competition. And only serves to make the strongest teams stronger. And richer.

That's football these days.

Our team seems to struggle with the physicality of the Premier League. Dorgu, Garnacho, Hojlund etc. get pushed off the ball easier in England but not so much when playing a European side.

I just wanted to avoid a Premier League side completely, especially one that has already beaten us three times this season.

It will be very Spursy to beat Manchester United three times in a season and then lose the one game that actually matters.

Tgarve is right though. Nobody cared when it was Frankfurt or Sevilla getting a spot in the Champions League via the Europa. It's only an issue now because of who the finalists are.

I do find it funny that some people think the 5th place finishers in the league have a right to be in the Champions League, yet the Europa League champions somehow aren't worthy.

Don't think anyone would deny that, but it's not just seen as a problem because they're disliked, it's because of the size of Man United and Spurs and this being a backdoor to a trophy/CL qualification despite being poor.

CL teams dropping down when they weren't up to scratch in the CL was unfair, but it doesn't feel like the problem has gone away by removing it, it feels the same.

As long as they keep Ange around for another season, I'm ok with that.

I get that, but there's a lot of big/rich teams in the Premier League now. There's always going to be a couple of English teams in the Europa League every season that are Champions League level clubs, at least in terms of revenue.

Say Chelsea are the ones to miss out of CL via the league this year, people will say the same thing about them next year as they are about us and Spurs now.

There's also the insinuation that it's an easy competition to win, which just isn't true IMO.

Didn't know Coventry was so desperate/dumb that they had hired Frank Lampard  Win win no matter how this goes.

Now have a look at their record since he took over.

I think Frank Lampard is massively hard done by.

I have to admit to thinking the same until recently but he shouldn't be in the bracket of Gerrard and Rooney etc.

Whenever I watch Lampard talk, he's articulate, considered and interesting. He's also not so arrogant that he won't ply his trade in the championship.

Im far from suggesting that hes a great manager but he's shown he's well capable at this level, at the very least.

Tbf he's completely turned them around. Think they were 17th or something when he took over, done a hell of a job there. He's got a lot more about him than Gerrard or Rooney as a manager

6 months worth of results vs previous 5 years. Sure good point.

Why would Coventry care about that? This is his level and they probably know it. 'Risk' has worked so far.

Unless im mistaken, the Everton job is the only one which hasn't gone well.

Even at Chelsea, it was deemed a decent job given their transfer ban.

He's also got a track record of bringing in young players.
