Â Sadly teams from Eastern Europe just cannot compete anymore, the financial chasm has made it impossible. Who were the last genuinely top side to emerge from Eastern Europe? Dynamo Kiev in the late 90s? Â we will never again see the days of Steaua Bucharest and Red Star Belgrade winning the European Cup, and that is not something that sits well with me tbh. Having a 36 team league feels like a mess. A group of 4 teams and 6 games meant that each game was even more important, you now have 8 games to make sure you get through, and 24 teams out of 36 will progress from this stage..
