How do you feel about Boro? I'm not a Geordie, or even British, but over the years I've learned to hate the Mackems. But Boro...can't say I like them but don't really mind them as such.

I actually liked them mid 90s to mid 00s. Liked the way they played and the names they managed to attract. Now though, just meh. No opinion towards or against them.

Pretty much like me then.

Even after they got relegated with Ravanelli and Juninho leaving, they managed to take the likes of Merson, Gazza & Branca down a division which was pretty impressive.

Had good players later on as well under McClaren; Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Mendieta going there was kind of surreal at the time

Can anyone sum up what’s going on with the Paqueta case last few days? Getting fined by FA but they aren’t appealing not guilty decision? So why the fine? Am I picking this up wrong?

He didn't cooperate with the FA initially so he's being punished for that.

I'd like Paqueta to release an OJ style 'I did it' book.

Might need to as the FA don’t seem to be in a position to write one. Though their’s would be funnier judging by this…

uuuuuuuuuuURRRRRGGHHhh this international break is by far the worst of all the shitty ones during a season. I hate it. Fucking hate it!! Do the first international games in the summer and let us get on with the season ffs.

I know… something seems very off about all this.

Have to say, reading the accusations against the player initially, and then seeing the video evidence to support that he was getting cards etc, it looked pretty compelling and ban-worthy

Batistuta was on a par with Shearer for me - loved him as a player

For me, Batistuta and Shearer were the joint 3rd best strikers of the 90s.

R9 was 1st. Romario, number 2.

I said a little while back about Isak not being world class. He's not in those players level, throw Henry in there as well, Brazilian Ronaldo.

Isak is one of the best of a poor class.

Not a good look for the FA https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6595258/2025/09/03/lucas-paqueta-betting-fa

Quote

Having listened to huge amounts of oral and written testimony, from 18 witnesses, the panel unanimously dismissed the four spot-fixing charges, describing the FA’s case as “contradictory” in parts and at times “defying logic”.

In short, it agreed with Paqueta’s barrister Nick De Marco KC that the more likely explanation for the increased number of bets on whether he would get a yellow card or not is that he spoke to his mother almost every day and she would then pass on vague comments about his mood to customers of her hair salon in Rio de Janeiro. These innocuous conversations would become “hot tips” that Paqueta knew nothing about.

While the panel was unimpressed with the FA’s witnesses, it found former West Ham manager David Moyes, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg and probability expert Bob Smith, an actuary, far more compelling.

The only success for the FA, in what was clearly a long and expensive investigation, was in persuading the panel to find Paqueta guilty of two non-cooperation charges for refusing to give detailed answers during an early interview.
