What goal that didn't directly affect Newcastle United have you celebrated the most? So no goals that impacted our league standings or cup runs etc

I'll start with Iniesta vs Chelsea

That Iniesta goal was class. A crestfallen Andy Gray on commentary made it even sweeter.

Plus, Drogba throwing his toys out of the pram at the end.

Found an app which gives the scores Teletext style & it makes me feel nostalgic

That's good stuff. Miss the days of Ceefax / Teletext. Checking the scores, the news. Seeing what's on at the Odeon, ringing my mates house and meeting at the Metty for a day in the toon. Film, Maccys and a bit of snooker at Hustlers / Stowell St or rarer yet Central Snooker. Happy days.

Forgive my reminiscent waffling. Is that app called Telescore?

I liked your post because it needs outlawed. Not because I think we should get involved. It’s fucking awful for football to reduce a club in its own right down to just being a feeder club. Add in that you’re a feeder club that’s expressly there to do dodgy hustle deals and the whole thing is unforgivable

The entire allure of this sport 20 years ago was the feeling that you were joining something far older and greater than yourself, and being a caretaker of it in the moment, a link in the chain. Following the rise and fall of fortunes and seeing people etch their names into the legend of the club. Now it's just a fucking stock.

Some of that is admittedly us, as yanks but a lot of it is the powers that be not actually liking football and treating it like it's a bank. Clubs no longer have histories, only hierarchies. It's fucked.

Absolutely perfect summary this. You’ve completely nailed it in a way I hadn’t even properly considered

Nah. It’ll never be fucked as long as there are people like us, Mike. Whether from ‘downtown’ Tyneside or some lesser (😉) part of the world. We are the club’s heart beat, conscience and memory (selective obvs!).

was thinking about gaël bigirimana the other day, and it got me to thinking.. was he the most pardewed player of that miserable era? looked like he really had something to him in his few appearances, yet he turned thirty playing in the northern irish premiership on loan from a team in fucking tanzania.

trying to think of who else i ever had hopes for around that time. kadar and abeid made careers for themselves. would've liked mbabu to make something of it here: surely could've been better than some of the dross we had at right-back following.

actually, does it need to be terminal for it to be a pardewing? i mean, hatem managed to get over his once he got out of hull.

A bit of a cheat answer but I went crazy over Watkin's goal for England last year.

In terms of hate watches, probably when Man United equalised against Pardew's Palace after he'd done the dance.

Or maybe Pardew got something out of him and the likes of Abeid? Neither did owt after leaving us.

Was he actually a good/talented footballer? Or just a clogger known for cuntish tackles?

Probably the latter really. Just really confident/arrogant on the pitch which has obviously contributed to his acting career.

Have to say Pardew should thank his lucky stars we got Bruce. It's really shown there are levels to crapness. He was bad but he was nowhere near Bruce bad, that's as bad as it gets for me

I saw him actually play some canny football for Leeds, old fashioned ball winner that got it and gave it to someone who could use it

Benjamin Pavard v Argentina and Nacho Fernandez v Portugal, I was swept up by that world cup and those two goals were stunning.

In terms of a goal where I was really invested in the match, it would be Messi's free kick v Liverpool.

Special mention for Valentino Lazaro for Monchengladbach v Leverkusen a few years ago. Sickeningly underrated goal, one of greatest I've ever seen. Easily the best and most aesthetically pleasing scorpion kick ever.
