Opta have cut ties with fbref. Most of the good stats came via Opta on fbref.

Big blow for desktop scouting that.  Good bye ball progression stat! 😔

Yeah, this is terrible. A big win for the “goals are the only stat I need” brigade.

It was really good for sorting narrative and fact.

It was largely the fbref data where it was obvious Pope would be a massive upgrade on Dubs. He beat Dubs on so many key metrics - save percentage, xgc delta, claiming crosses, and distance of defensive actions. Didn't include the pass stats but immediately - I knew Pope's strengths vs Dubs and it was night and day.

It is a bit more difficult with out field players and things are more team-dependent. But still useful. Elanga over performed all of his expected data last year iirc. Not great 1v1 stats etc. But still good expected assist data but not brilliant.

Fbref was the last free data point for football. Opta site is useles. Statsbomb is paywalled and super expensive. You can gleam some stuff from whoscored and footbmob(?) but not as good as fbref.

Bad news for nerds is good news for @bobbydazzla am I right.

A major blow for the N-O Society of Stat Nonces & Virgins. Will they ever recover from such devastating news ?

Anything that reduces the Football Stat Twat Dunning-Kreuger effect and minimises the double-burden of incompetence, is a good thing in my book.

I’m just going to start making things up.

Ramsdale currently leads the league in ESIHWS (Expected Saves If He Wasn’t Shit).

Starting to think it would be massively beneficial to football for big teams to drop out of this years World Cup for a multitude of reasons

The question you should ask yourself, as you take a long hard look in the mirror, is “why do Ramsdale’s stats matter to me so much, how come my life is so unfulfilled?”

Then rail a massive line of bugle off the mirror and go out and have real fun with real people in real nite spots.

If it means less of this tit then I’m afraid it’s a necessary sacrifice

I used to find him a bit annoying (and he kinda is) but tbh I think he's arguably the most sensible NUFC content creator out there now.

[emoji38] I don't need stats to tell me Ramsdale is shit. They do provide nice confirmation though.
