Whatever you think about what other teams can do, the fact is we are in a better position than them, and we’re a good team.

There’s no logical need to worry.

This thread would have half as many pages if we were all able to remain logical.

  • We're third in the table with a 6-10 point lead on our rivals.
  • We have a GD that is becoming more insurmountable by the week for all but Liverpool
  • We have the 6th best home record and the 3rd best away record.
  • We are the 3rd most in form side behind only City and Villa (7th in home form, 4th in away form).
  • We've lost 4 games all season (two of them without our best player).
  • 4 of our final 7 games are at home, including the hardest two (Arsenal and Brighton)
  • 4 of our final 7 games are against teams battling relegation, which you could twist as a negative but the fact is those teams aren't very good
  • Going back to Feb. 1 of last year we have been the 4th best team in the league (one point worse off than Liverpool)

If you were a fan of a club chasing us the loss at Villa may have provided a glimmer of hope and then you watched Newcastle respond with arguably the best performance by anyone this season. At this point you're likely thinking a rash of injuries and suspensions are the only chance, or maybe you've turned your full attention to Manchester United who are already dealing with injuries, a worse GD, a difficult stretch coming up, and also a huge cup final to think about.

How is Liverpool's fixtures easier than ours?

The average current position of their 7 opponents is 11.42

The average of our 7 opponents is 13.

We both play Leicester and Southampton.

They play West Ham, we play Everton.

They play Villa we play Brighton.

Pretty evenly matched games so far.

They have Fulham and Brentford, we have Leeds and Chelsea.

They have Spurs, we have Arsenal.

Rather have our fixtures.

3 wins for us leaves us on 68 points with a decent GD.

liverpool would need 6 wins from7, or 5 and 3 draws just to level us.

spurs 5 wins from 6

brighton 7 wins from 9, or 6 and a few draws

villa 5 wins from 5,

thas not ting into account that some of them plaay each other.

so its looking positive.

If I'm reading this right this season we could have been in groups like:

Real Madrid or Bayern Munchen or PSG

Barcelona or Juventus or Atletico

Dortmund or Inter or Napoli or Benfica

Newcastle

Obviously these are worst case scenarios but it could be rough (and fucking class).

Doesn’t matter to me. It is just fucking class regardless, tbh. And you never know how we will fare against the best opposition.
Barcelona at home was our first Champions League game.

With Dalglish taking over after Xmas, the season before, we hadn’t been playing the kind of football we were used to and pretty much everyone expected a baptism of fire/footballing lesson. We were 3-0 nil up just after half-time. It was unreal and has to be up there (or right out of the stratosphere!) with best ever home atmospheres. Can’t wait for the opportunity of a similar occasion again.

Those are the ones Heron's earmarked as winnable I think. I totally agree that Arsenal is winnable though.

So is Brighton at home. Actually think all our remaining games are winnable.

It's Liverpool's dodgiest game left for sure.

If they fail to win tonight it could knock the stuffing out of them - 8/9 points to overhaul in 6 games is extremely difficult. If we then went on to beat Everton they're completely out of it.

However I do think they'll win and it'll give them confidence going into 3 home games in 6 days next week. It's a huge game for us.

Getting my youngin's bubble wand out as we speak.

Fancy West Ham tonight. A West Ham win would leave Liverpool on 50 points with 18 points left to play for. We'd only need 10 more points to guarantee finishing above them.

I think we will regardless but given all the #worrying made after Liverpool beat a tragic Leeds that may well calm a few down.

Agree with @timeEd32

We should get 11 points at a minimum. Any less and we've absolutely bottled it or suffered key injuries. The only way that isn't good enough for CL is perfection or near perfection from Liverpool, Spurs or Brighton. The only medium risk is us getting the minimum points and Liverpool being perfect.

I keep saying it, we'll get 73-74 points and it will be comfy.
