Give him the Burnley game against a finished Walker, then bring him back for Fulham and Chelsea before Christmas - Chelsea more for his off the ball work than anything, he was outstanding at stopping the danger pass to Palmer in last season's game.

Barnes starting for Tottenham, Leverkusen and the mackems

surprised it took so long for this thread to be bumped

(guess he's still not too popular here)

he did great tonight

Deserved to be the match winner tonight.

Did very well on the first goal and smashed home the penalty.

Shouldn't be surprised it's deathly quiet on here about him now

Hopefully that performance will kick him into gear for the remainder of the season. I'd start Gordon against Burnley so Barnes can get a little breather ahead of an important game against Leverkusen.

Not really his sort of game at the weekend. But he’s played himself into the starting XI, TBF. He was very good last night. Hopefully he can put in another decent performance and kick on from here.

If Barnes is starting as well. I’d play Gordon on the right. But I don’t think that will happen and Barnes will get shifted across.

Been a massive critic of his this season, but that was a really good cameo. Much more like it, rinsing the fullback with ease and causing chaos. Agree with Vlad, I'd stick him on the right and see what that front three (with Barnes and Big Nick) can do

He's rightly had his critics but as one of his biggest (critics) I think it's important to acknowledge he helped us towards victory last night, and collectively we fucked up.

He was good coming on, but Barnes wasn’t poor and can’t be dropped straight away. Barnes has earned the right to still start LW and Gordon will hopefully continually get angry to prove a point when he comes on.

Serves us no good moving either of them RW.

Murphy was atrocious last night and Elanga is hardly getting a run of games or staking a claim for a regular starting spot.

I know Howe does seem to see it as those two as the options for the right. Barnes and Gordon on the left. But I just don’t see how starting our two best wide men could be much worse than the inconsistent slop we are serving up from wide areas most weeks.

They could even interchange at times and be a bit more fluid in the front 3 when Wissa returns. But that has never really been Howe’s style since being here. Guessing it is to do with the patterns of play and partnerships he wants across the pitch.

The critics I'm fine with. I've called it out when he was trying way too hard and looking a mess out there. The bench time seems to have done him some good and calmed him down from what we saw yesterday at least.

It's the obsessive "haters" that crawled out of their crevices claiming they were right about him all along when they claimed he was shit after we signed him, that I really found pathetic

What is he 24 years old? But because he's had an up and down time off things the last year, they were ready to sell him because apparently he didn't want to be here, or because he wears a head band now, or because of his haircut and a plethora of other nonsense.

If I'm not misken he's one of only 3 players that has ever had double figures in goals and assists in a season in the league, in the club's recent history? He did this when he was 22/23 years old.

But yeah ... let's throw him away instead of helping him figure things out and get some consistency and confidence so we see more of that. Just ridiculous.
