Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

We get more money than we originally paid for him and I’m happy. Even better if he goes abroad. I think he’s probably been fit to play for the last couple of games at least but the club hasn’t been willing to risk injury. We haven’t missed him one bit.

He’s generally come across well in interviews and usually puts in a lot of work. Don’t have a problem with him at all but something’s definitely brewing behind the scenes. Relieved that it hasn’t surfaced.

Wonder if the alleged fall-out between Bruno and Gord as well as Bruno’s spat with Willock are related to the Isak factor as I imagine Bruno would have been one of the players who was really angry with Isak whilst the other two were obviously big buddies with him.

I remember reading some time ago something along the lines of "two compatriots were particularly unhappy with Isaks behaviour and sought to confront him".

Was blates Bruno and Joelinton. Think they absolutely have Eddie's back too along with Trippier and Lascelles previously.

I doubt that. I mean, at least based on the priority, Gordon and Willock definitely have Howe’s full backing, till the latter part of this season

I didn't say they didn't have but now you've opened that can of worms Gordon in particular isn't that devoted to NUFC or Howe given he has been underperforming for the vast majority of the last calendar year and has clearly wanted away and now got his move.

True story.

Assuming he does leave, are we better looking for a direct replacement, or trying again to find a better option for the right?  We already have Barnes, Joelinton, Ramsay and Willock who can do a job on the left so I would suggest the latter would make more sense.

Ramsay looked mint on the left - I am sure that's where he played when he was so effective at Villa

Other way around. His good form with Villa happened at LCM, then dropped when he played LM/LW, though injuries had also happened.

Ramsey on the left worked as he just played where he wanted at times. Still not 100% what system we played on Sunday but it looked a lot more fluid than the 4-3-3 where the 3 up top don't swap or move

That fluidity was beautiful to see. I hope we play it the same against Fulham to see if it works as well against (slightly) better competition.

Comments from Howe’s presser:

”Anthony’s come back from injury, he’s been great around the group, he’s been absolutely part of the team, so there’s been no issues, let’s see what happens”

Obviously it would be foolish of him to say anything to the contrary if we’re in the process of negotiating a fee with Bayern, but given he pretty much went out of his way to praise his attitude, I think we can put to bed the idea that there’s been some kind of massive falling out, or that Gordon has chucked it.

Gordon has done some wonderfully kind things for folk off the pitch. I wish him nothing but the best wherever he may end up. Shame we didn't get the 100% committed version of him all the time because when he's on it he can be immense.

Always got the impression Gordon isn't particularly close to anyone in the team off the pitch. Not in the same way you see Thiaw and Woltemade, Bruno and Joelinton, Tino and Hall etc.

It seems the club know they needed a big sale to facilitate trading this summer, maybe even two if Tonali leaves and have accepted that it can be Gordon. Just hope it's for good money and we don't regret selling early if he has a good world Cup and his value increases.

I'd assumed we would only sell if we got a really good price. Is our financial position so precarious that we have to sell our best players this summer regardless?

I wonder if his enthusiasm for us waned when we were hawking him out to teams during that PSR summer when Anderson went. Hasn’t been the same player since that summer and the euros that preceded it.

Maybe but that just shows he lacks professionalism. If he can't understand we had no choice then he's not as smart as he lets on.

Let's not forget he subsequently signed a new deal making his one of our top earners.

He was best mates with Elliott Anderson from what I remember.

Gonna keep banging the drum for us to view Elanga primarily as a LW competing with Barnes going forward and buy a ball playing leftie for the RW spot (or two, ideally).

We really desperately miss having a wide player who is a bit of a #10 in one of the wide spots. Almiron’s issues with his final ball were pretty severe but his interplay with Bruno and Trippier did serve us well.

We been linked with anyone at all that fits that description or we gonna persevere with trying to recapture that lighting in a bottle right footed RW setup we had with Murphy and Isak?

Won't we need some sort of target man to compliment this ?

Wissa isn't it, Nick still too weak imo

Bayern Munich have increased their efforts to sign Anthony Gordon following an endorsement from England manager Thomas Tuchel. According to sources in Germany, Tuchel personally supported the move during discussions with Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl. A significant difference in valuation remains between the clubs. Newcastle insists on a fee of at least £75 million, while Bayern’s current valuation is thought to be approximately £20 million less than that amount. Sources indicate that Bayern are optimistic that negotiations can progress in the coming weeks. Gordon is reportedly more attracted to the possibility of moving to Bavaria. According to sources, Tuchel’s presence within the England setup has increased that appeal. In comments to German media, Max Eberl confirmed that Bayern are actively working on acquiring attacking players. He also confirmed that positive talks had occurred regarding a leading target, who is understood to be Gordon.
