In this arbitration process, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton all acted as witnesses for City.

Witnesses for the Premier League included Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Brighton and West Ham.

Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham and Wolves wrote letters in support of the rules.

Usual suspects then

It would be equally ridiculous to punish the clubs with interest free loans from their owners when they were following the rules at the time.

It really does seem like the Premier League is eating itself

Hard to imagine it being that productive. Fundamentally, the PL and more than half the clubs in it are desperate for us to fail. They’ll be feverishly looking at any possible options to maintain the status quo

How bad are things for Everton, there fucked big style. Like Reading fucked.

Or they've played a blinder by backing city.knowing full well the Prem will not go after the likes of arsenal and Liverpool for the loan breaches. Which means all penalties given for PSR will be voided ... maybe 😁

Aye, you can't charge anyone for following the rules. That would be so obviously unfair.

I'd guess Everton will be fine.

You could guess they could argue that, whilst they were charged for interest rate breaches, essentially, other clubs weren't charged through PSR due to owner interest rate rules which were themselves unlawful.

Legal cases all over the shop.

Just change the rules very short notice to say they now have to pay the market rate for interest. They seem to like these very short notice change to rules.

If this takeover gets approved, then the loans will likely be paid back during the transaction, like ours to Ashley. Everton will be in a decent position if it goes ahead. They won’t be able to invest, but should get themselves back to break even, with the new stadium and the increased income that comes with it due.

That's not my reading of the decision, it is clear that the rules are only unlawful on limited grounds:

(i) that the APT Rules are unlawful on account of being in breach of sections 2 and
18 of the Competition Act 1998 because they exclude from their scope shareholder
loans and for no other reason;

(ii) that the Amended APT Rules are unlawful on account of being in breach of
sections 2 and 18 of the Competition Act 1998 as they exclude from their scope
shareholder loans and because of the pricing changes in Appendix 18 of the
Amended APT Rules and for no other reason;

(iii) that APT Rules and the Amended APT Rules are unlawful on account of being
procedurally unfair because a club is unable to comment upon the comparable
transaction data relied upon by the PL before the PL determines whether a
transaction is not at FMV and for no other reason;

Still got to be changed for APT being unlawful and that is certainly not minor. For a start FMV will be a lot different in Saudia Arabia than it will be in the UK. Aye the premier league really going to knock back a sponsorship from a Saudi company and face the high likelihood now they will be straight in court. The Premier League are full of shite and Masters and co will certainly try to downplay things. Time will tell though, but I disagree with your thinking

Also, we were a club that had been hollowed out to its bare bones, declining massively on and off the pitch for 14 years

This wasn't a rich club getting richer, it was a club that had been fucked over by a parasitic owner getting the chance to rebuild and compete again. And 11 x PL teams and the PL itself schemed away to stop it happening

That’s all very true and highly likely, but once the rules change to include these loans which they have too. Then what ?

We had Charnley, an overpromoted lickspittle paid a pittance (compared to his industry peers) doing the combined jobs of at least 5-10 Director level employees

"Significant"

Of course it is, I honestly don't understand how anyone cannot see that. The APT rules have been deemed unlawful and have to be changed ; and I would be gobsmacked if the changes were not significant, with the changes not being changed deemed as insignificant, despite the Premier League's words.

Have these PSR rules failed miserably where Brighton and Everton are concerned ? If those loans are called in they are fucked.

Brighton will be fine, they have huge PSR headroom due to their transfers and the loans are to their owner so he’s no incentive to call them in and put his own club out of business.
