Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)

It is part and parcel of being a footballer these days though, will be the same whether you are a Newcastle young hopeful or Man U/Liverpool. These lads need a thick skin, and hopefully having a manager like Howe is invaluable here. Imagine if it was Steve Bruce or Graeme Souness.

100% correct. There are a small minority of fans that want to be right more than winning even. The earlier they make a claim the more joy they get out of parading it in people’s faces if it comes true. For that small minority that largely get it wrong there is generally zero recognition and accountability for the times they get it wrong

Its just so weak though.

It's mostly some kind of defence mechanism because they're anxious about getting disappointed if a new player or an emerging player doesn't end up as good as they hoped or anticipated.

If everyone and everything is shit then they can never be disappointed by anything, in their minds.

The crowd at the ground, as they should be, are very supportive of him. Certainly, in general, the crowd at SJP is a lot more forgiving than it used to be. Some players used to get terrible stick, at one time Tommy Gibb asked to be excused from playing in home games!

i don’t use twitter, but can imagine it is the worst, but there has been plenty of unwarranted negativity on here too. Give the lad a chance, he is way ahead of schedule and is going to be a great player!

Also I think that there are plenty of supporters of other clubs “infiltrating” posts/forums etc to criticise players, probably hoping it will unsettle them.

I think the response to the negativity is way bigger than the original negativity.

I was thinking that too but Eddie getting asked twice about it at the pre-match press confrence annoyed me.

I really like Miley, he's a top talent and so calm and composed for his age, he's can develop to be one of the best players in the country and we have to get behind him rather than have a go at silly things.

Greased the chains well when he came on. Surprised at no comments on him, he's looking better the more minutes he's getting. Shame he started last season injured as would imagine he'd be 6 months further along in development but his on-ball awareness is elite, trust Howe will iron out the rest.

No doubting his potential and he’s got the frame to be a beast, but he’s still only a kid and probably a little bit too “nice” at the moment. Once he finds his feisty side he’ll affect games far more.

Big Joe needs to bring him to Ayia Napa this summer 🙂

Just addressed this in the Forest thread, but I think the better opposition we play, the more suited he is to the game. I am really non-plussed when I hear our fans are giving him abuse, in the games I've watched this season, his ball retention under pressure has been better than most. He's not the finished product but he's definitely good enough for first team football now.

I'm not a happy clapper just because he's a local either, I like him because he's a really good footballer.

Was far more positive and mobile. Big Joe needs a rest. Given all the international travel Bruno or Joe should have been rested. We clearly didnt learn from the poor performances after last international break, despite that being used as an excuse.

Good to see Ramsey back on the upside too.
