That deafening screech at half time was a highlight

Hopefully someone sabotaged those godawful CL adverts we're otherwise forced to listen to at eardrum bursting levels.

Was actually embarrassing tonight. Worse than a Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge.

I genuinely didn't think it was that bad from the lower Milburn. Some really quiet bits, but when it got going at times it was canny. I've certainly sat through worse atmospheres in recent times.

I think the new format is shite and means there's very little riding on the game, which absolutely doesn't help.

Thought The Corner was class, but might have been more noticeable because it was unusually quiet around us. I didn’t give it full gun, I must admit.

I sat in the corner for a decade and when I was there I was adamant it was the only part of the ground that had any atmosphere.

Recently I’ve been in L7 Leazes/Milburn corner and the atmosphere up there has been good, but we can’t hear a peep from anything in the lower bowl.

Ultimately a major issue is the acoustics in

SJP are fucking terrible.

A new ground with fans closer to the action will help massively with the atmosphere.

i was in the gallowgate last night for the first time in a while, and thought the atmosphere was decent - loads of noise from the corner. much better than the leazes which is usually shamefully quiet.

Switching around the songs to make things better but still says Bru-nooohhh like a fucking child

This is still one of the worst things in modern football.  It is fucking cringe.  I die inside when he does his little camp Bruuuuunooooooo.

I've actually become quite fond of ENJOY THE GAME

Atmosphere was a fair bit better than Benfica, I thought.  Low bar, but there was more singing around the ground and it was coming down from L7 across the Leazes more than usual.

So, 'the switch'

I thought the Blaydon Races before kick off was outstanding today, and it was kept at good pace compared the usual makina bpm.  Don't get me  wrong I love a fuckin rave but there's a time and a place

I liked it.

I love Local Hero but I'll be happy if this is a catalyst for singing Blaydon Races properly.

Most round me were singing it with the correct words and at the right pace.  Yet when the chant started later on, it was back to 100MPH and the wrong words.  I'm sure some people manage to shoehorn Scotswood Road in 3 times

 was awful. People can't seem to get themselves up for these games. There were better atmospheres at Wolves, Forest and Fulham, and they weren't particularly good.

Think the novelty of being in the CL has worn off, was always going to eventually. Mix in the lack of real jeopardy with the new format and it being a game we’re favourites to win and it was always going to be a bit flat imo.

I see that switching Local Hero and Blaydon Races around did absolutely fuck all either for the atmosphere or the speed in which it is sung.

I don’t think we’ll ever have a good atmosphere unless something happens in the match to trigger it. Or it’s a must win game that all the crowd understand.

We should stick a cardboard cut out of Isak on the bench to get the atmosphere going

I thought the point was to have silence before KO so the fans could make the noise, but then they played Blaydon Races right up to the whistle. Confused.

Did they just keep playing it over and over, or does that terrible version have all the verses?  Sounded like it went on forever on the radio

One verse, on repeat.  Track must only be a minute long.

DUM DUM.
DUM DUM

Ohhhhh, me laaaaads.

It’s the format that’s the problem as opposed to the novelty wearing off with regards to the occasion.

As mentioned previously the match wasn’t the kind of game to help either. Literally no sustained pressure. When there was the crowd responded.

I thought the switch worked ok… just wasn’t expecting it to hold up the KO so maybe needs an edit

Didn’t help those who got the memo didn’t bring their scarfs mind……
