Newcastle United in Europe - 2023/24

Recommended Posts

Aye I second this. At Brugge I ran into a young lad who had travelled without a ticket and had never been to a European away so I gave him mine (for face value).

as it turns out watching in the square on the big screen (with a couple of thousand ticketless mags)they put up was more enjoyable that the escorted 2 mile walk to the ground before and after the game.

Fuck it, just go anyway (I say at the risk of upsetting any police spotters that lurk on here.)

The trip, camaraderie and the beers are the best part of most European trips.

I was in the square also, only one of our group without a ticket... took the escorted walk on the way up to see if I got lucky buy alas... it wasn't to be!

Back to square I went end enjoyed it all the same.  Excellent trip.

Bruges square was absolutely mint. Didn't Club Brugge refuse us an expanded ticket allocation then end up with a crowd way below capacity?

Edit: 11,000 below capacity. Pricks.

Aye. I'm sure Birmingham had a 7/8000 allocation a year or two prior.

That walk was a pisser, though. Seemed to go on forever, although I think that trip was the birth of the 'don't sell Cabaye/don't take me home' songs. One of them anyway.

It felt like all of Newcastle was there. I was constantly bumping into people from my local or people who sat near me at the match.

Thankfully they made it up to us with lots of 0% alcohol in the stadium.

'Don't take me home' was Bordeaux I think.

Which was also a cracking away trip.

Always thought it was born from Brugge - Fulham away a few days later. Could be completely wrong - probably am given I was out of it on very strong Belgian beer and some extra-strong party paracetamol for 3 nights

Aye I think it was Bordeaux! We stopped in London for the weekend as we were at Fulham on the Monday night!

From my own limited experience (Milan and Metz) and conversation with those who barely miss a game,  the "big ones" aren't as good trips. Metz was better than Milan, Bilbao better than Barce etc.

Also I hope when we do go away our support builds a decent reputation, the sort that drew compliments from the likes of Metz, Bilbao and Bourdeaux.

Aye Brugge was the first time I'd heard it. Don't know if Wales were singing it before us though.

Always wonder what happened to the bloke who fell down a ludicrously steep set of stairs in one of those bars where everyone was after the match. Got carted off in an ambulance.
