NUFC Transfer Rumours

People downplaying the English talent again by not wanting Quansah. Just like Trevor Chalobah, there's really good talents for good fees. I'd be happy if we exclusively spent the big money on English talent, because the ceiling is stupidly high.

We'd be daft to focus exclusively on English talent when there's similar quality players on the continent commanding a lower fee

But buying abroad comes with its own risks - difference in league quality, adapting to new environment, adapting to new style of play etc.  Brighton seem to be good at identifying talent and Forest. Every transfer is a risk.

I'm not arguing we shouldn't be looking abroad but you can see the benefits of shopping locally.

Although that can fail - Sterling, Dewsbury hall, kalvin Phillips, nketiah etc. Most of these guys were doomed to fail for various reasons: age, big club tax, Chelsea, declining...

It's a difficult job that's for sure, even proven players like fullkrug drop here and completely flop.

I think it’s fairly obvious Schär has had a drop off this season. He was great in the cup final, but he’s having more bad performances than he was having over the past couple seasons. He’s hitting his mid-30s, so it’s hardly a surprise tbh. We’ve got one of the oldest starting 11s in the league and waiting until performances fall off a cliff isn’t an option.

I agree. But Quansah was total crap in the cup final, and if he leaves Liverpool it's because he is not good enough. Why would we replace Schär with a player like that? As a replacement for Lascelles I would understand it.

And I agree Schär's level has dropped and he is aging. Next year will probably be his last here.

The fees are usually not a good value for money though.

He was right-back mind, and clearly he’s not a right-back. I thought he actually did reasonable, given the circumstances.

Schär is 34 in December and there are already signs of performance drop off. RCB is surely one of our priority positions. Some of our best players have had bad games, especially out of position in a team not playing well. It’s pretty short sighted to write someone off because of that.

And I’m not sure ‘he’s not good enough’ for Liverpool. He’s a good sale for them for PSR. And even if he’s not good enough for them, they’re the best team in the league. We’re not in a position yet to be only trying to sign players who’d get in the Liverpool team.

I’m not even saying we should sign him, but I wouldn’t be writing him off.

Liverpool certainly need a centreback, they are buying at least one, but maybe 2. And that is because Quansah is not seen as good enough.

They have no issues with PSR, and if they had, Kelleher is leaving anyway, they might sell Robertson etc.

I am saying we should definitely aim higher than getting Quansah as our starting CB. Especially because he would cost a fair bit and would help our rivals.

Defending-wise he was ok. On the ball not so much. Both of our goals were created from that side though.

He was in a difficult place that is true, but how much would he cost? 30 million or more?

Anyone else just at the point where they're happy to sit back and let the club decide? They know what they're doing.

Totally agree, I’m not stressing about it at all, whether they bring in will have had extensive research on regarding all facets of their game and character.

Especially considering he got absolutely no help from Salah or their midfield.

Quansah is 22, so should be starting to get regular game time in his preferred position if he wants to develop. If Van Dijk stays longer at Liverpool I guess there's a good chance he'll seek other opportunities as he'll struggle to get ahead of him and Konate.

Whether he's good enough to command a starting spot at RCB for us i don't know. Haven't seen enough of him in that position. He seems to have the pace we've been screaming for in that position at least, and for a CB he seems very good with the ball in his feet. If our people want him, and he wants to come here then I'm all for it.

Like Quansah a lot. Think him and Colwil have the potential to be Guehi's partner in the England set up going forward. Good on the ball the few times I've seen him.

Not seen enough of Quansah to comment but I really don't rate Colwill, not really sure what he is supposed to be good at but maybe he is just having a bad season.
