A 4th CM would play a lot more minutes than a second striker. Easy choice for me.

A new GK is a ceiling raiser imo.  We would be a better team.

I’ll put it this way. For Chelsea would you rather have Trafford/a new GK in goal with Willock LCM or a back 5. With Longstaff and Miley on the bench. 
 

Or would you rather have the Atalanta Ederson in midfield/another CM and Pope in goal against Chelsea? 
 

I know which one I’d prefer. 
 

Villa have 4 quality CM options for 2 positions.  Then they have Barkley as backup too. That’s a big reason why they are still in the race.

Don’t think he suits Howe. Especially not with Miley around. If Miley goes on loan then Gomes is a good squad filler.  
 

I think we need a third powerhouse CM. That’s Howe’s preferred CM profile. That player can rotate with Tonali or Joelinton.  Happy for Gomes to fill in for Bruno.

For some positions, you can get away with youth/average if you’ve got exceptional players in other positions.

 

How many top sides have we seen over the years roll out average gunk at CB (even up top) but have a legit top CM and still win, because that’s the area that dominates games. We have a big step down in midfield when one is injured / off form and it’s been shown. If we’re to take a step it does feel that is a priority position on par with RCB and RW. 

 

Can see us going big there and rolling with GKs we got and a free striker / youth to balance things out.

Watched Mcatee for city and he doesn´t stand out in any way. Typical technical footballer who prefers the pass backward than to take on his man, just doesn´t seem like an Eddie Howe player...

I shit myself every time there’s a ball in behind our defence so a pacey CB would be my first preference. We’re going to need bargains though given how many players we need.

I mean, we need technical players in final third, it’s something we badly lack. £25m makes him more attractive and there’s certainly a player there to work with which would be appealing for Howe.

He's obviously not leaving this summer like.

 

As for McAtee, I'd take him for sure. Huge upgrade on what we've got beyond our first choice three in the middle, not sure he displaces any of them though. A decent amount of EXP for his age, at both ends of the table, and has loads of miles left in the tank.

Well he wouldn't be playing that way in Howe's system. That's my point.

 

I imagine if they are interested it would be based a lot on his success at under 21 level for England, and some of what he did at Sheffield United, and not his Man City stint, where he has hardly featured.

I like McAtee but he seems very random still. One sublime touch followed by an inexplicable decision or mistake. Guess he's not massively comfortable in the City team still.
