You’re probably right, in that we couldn’t or wouldn’t invest that much of available funds in one player. I just really rate him; could be a real difference maker, though obviously only if we had no weak links elsewhere.
Mikky
10 minutes ago, The College Dropout said: You need players who can play multiple positions. We won't have 22 players of the required level. We won't have 4 top quality fullbacks. We can have 3, including one who can play both flanks and Krafth. That's fine. We won't have 6 top quality attackers for 3 roles. We should have 5 (including Murphy in that), with Gordon and a RW that can play uptop, then Osula as proper backup. We won't have 6 quality midfielders for 3 roles. But we need 4 or 5, including a couple that can play multiple roles in midfield like Bruno can. Unles we can land a proper bargain like a Minteh, Duran, Rogers you need to make this type of sacrifice. And I get your point 100% - all I have said is we don’t really have anyone at all in these positions to offer us anything of note currently At most we will made 3 big signings and possibly 2,squad signings for relative amounts

GallowgatePigeon
Listen Paul, it's not that hard, here's how it goes: GK - New no.1, that much is obvious. Keep Pope or Dubs as no.2, preferably Pope unless we can get a fee for him in which case Dubs is fine. For 3rd choice keeper, try to find a young up and coming English keeper. I know we have Ruddy & Gillespie for the quota thing but they're never going to play so it's a waste of a squad place, go get a keeper who can make something of himself here. Nearly forgot about Vlach. He's a bum. Get him to fuck. LB - Tino, Trips and Burn can cover in Halls absence. Ideally I'd want another real LB but we have more pressing issues this summer. Punt Targett. Jamal Lewis is a fantastic prospect who deserves another chance, start him most weeks. RB - Least of our concerns, providing Trippiers form doesn't fall off a cliff next season. Loan out Ashby or sell him to anyone willing to give us something close to what we paid for him. Krafth is still servicable in an emergency. CB - A purple RCB is priority, pace and youth is a must. Schar is ideal back up for RCB. Botman and Burn are sufficient for LCB. I wouldn't be against taking a chance on a young CB to bring through the ranks with a view of replacing Burn & Schar in the near term. Give Lascelles a painting of a Spitfire and a bouquet of roses and let him ride off into the Championship to see out his days in the lower leagues. CM - Longstaff needs moved on to whoever will take them. He's played his role but the fact of the matter is we have outgrown him and there's reasonable chance of fetching some decent money for him. Willock can go too if the right offer comes in, otherwise he's fine as a rotational piece. We need another 2 CMs (3 if Willock goes), one of them to be in the mould of Joelinton or to at least share his minutes is a must IMO, without Joelinton we lack physicallity and aggression, we need a wrecking ball to set the tone. Get the idea of selling Joelinton into the sea. Bruno, Tonali are unsellable, I wouldn't entertain selling Miley either unless someone offers a kings ransom. RW - Purple is a must. No projects, no fucking around, get us guranteed quality. Murphy is perfectly fine as back up. Get Shola to send Kuol to Partick Thistle or something like that. LW - We good. ST - Watching Wilson now is tragic, send him to the glue factory, he is absoluely finished. Bring in a good striker who is happy to play 2nd fiddle most of the time but will also get his fair share of starts, a Chris Wood type player essentially. Use Osula as a swiss army knife and play him accross the front 3. Sell Isak and we riot. To summarise: Needs in order of priority: RW(purple)>CB(purple)>GK(purple)>CM>ST>CM(project)>CB(project) Spend whatevers left in the piggy bank on youth prospect/PSR flips. I make it sound so simple don't I? Edited 3 hours ago by GallowgatePigeon
AyeDubbleYoo
I wouldn't have GK that high up, although it's possible the Trafford deal is basically done. It would be great but I would keep Pope another year if it meant we could get those other targets done. Edited 3 hours ago by AyeDubbleYoo

Gottlob
In goal both Pope and Dubravka have provided room for doubt while someone who could play out from the back seems like an obvious evolution. On the other hand I think it's fanciful to reckon that a new right winger would replicate Murphy's numbers or prove transformative to our play. All of our wingers get good numbers in terms of goals and assists but are lacking in the buildup, and if we're going to solve some of our creativity or ball retention issues I think you could just as well look to the midfield where we sometimes lack guile and control, with Willock and Longstaff now unreliable as backups. Then again if we are talking about need rather than changes and improvements to our style of play, a backup striker is probably the biggest imperative because the fall off from Isak seems huge. Pope and Dubravka still look like Premier League players and we can rejig the squad elsewhere, but right now an injury to Isak would leave us without threat or a focal point. So I reckon at least four new signings, including a new goalkeeper and centre-back then at least a couple of players who can add cover and competition at centre midfield, right wing and striker. Selling Pope for £5m and signing Trafford for £20m on a 5 year contract probably produces a minor PSR improvement next year assuming similiar wages. Of course there’d then be a cost it later years. A new contract for Pope would be the other option which is cheaper still in PSR terms.

Thumbheed
1500 mins is about 16 games. 6/6 GA is a decent return for that. He'd be my second favourite option. Apparently available for less than £25m.

Ikon
I’d rather have Lee Kang-in than Mbeumo. Then also have a lot of money for other positions too. He’s also ridiculously tidy in possession which is an area that we need to improve in as well. Always been impressed when I’ve seen him. I’ve said it before that I don’t see Brentford selling him for 50m. By the sounds of it they want closer to 65m. PSG are very reasonable with the fees they ask for once someone is ready to leave due to a lack of opportunities, and mostly look to just get their money back. These kinds of deals are out there, and are the sort of deals the club has to be all over.
