NUFC Transfer Rumours

Think I've got it cracked. After the past season, Gordon isn't worth the £70 million that was being touted last summer, but maybe we could still do a deal with Liverpool even if their budget is being stretched. We sell them Gordon for £40 million plus Harvey Elliott, spend that £40 million on Jacob Ramsey before FFP day with Villa desperate to make a deal, then offload Longstaff and Willock for something in the region of £30 million combined.

Even if we only had £100 million to spend at the start of the window, we are now up to £130 million with two decent additions. That's enough for Mbeumo, Guehi or whoever else we might be interested in at centre back, and of course for Adam Armstrong, who becomes a distant but hardworking and homegrown backup player for up front and the flanks. With another sale or two - Targett maybe - plus some squeezing of the figures, we could also afford a moderately priced goalkeeper. And I think we'd be stronger without having used too much imagination and without breaking the bank.

You done anything nice this weekend?

As much as loads of posters have been desperate to push the narrative that Staveley got us into the shit, despite not really accepting that that “shit” has got us champions league twice and a cup and if we hadn’t spent so big there’s no chance we would have got those and people would have been complaining instead that we “didn’t push enough” in the market and “we’ve been left behind when we should have gone all out”, Staveley backed Howe massively on transfers. I wonder who’s his closest backer on transfers these days

This.

The narrative that Stavely got us into the shit is itself a load of shit.  We're not in the shit. We're further away from being in the shit than we've been for years, thanks in large measure to her. If she hadn't gambled on spending big, we'd probably have been relegated and up to our necks in shit.

Near enough two decades really.

I would be surprised - RW is our priority

Not sure that's true any more since Murphy's breakout season. If Mbuemo can actually double as a striker then maybe, but I'm not even sure he plays that role effectively.

Even if you weren't being daft, that's not how FFP works.  We don't need the 40m to buy players - money isn't the issue - 'headroom' is.  Selling Gordon for 40m + a 30m trade wouldn't mean we have 40m left over to spend.

What's the point in a little more headroom when you're busy sucking up all of the oxygen?

I know you're earnestly trying to be a WUM and witty to boot, but it isn't working.  Stop being a silly billy.

Again it seems to be coming back to this idea that we want to sell Mbuemo down the line.

How about we sign him, get 6/8 years out of him, win shit loads of stuff, get consistent CL football and not worry about the fee we get for him when he's in his 30s.

We aren't Brighton or Brentford. I wonder if Liverpool fans are kicking off because they won't get a big fee for Wirtz after winning their fucking 30th PL title or whatever.

We’re not near the level of having a youth system that can churn out sales, so we can’t load up on a squad that has no resale otherwise we’re just fucked down the line.

Have to balance things and Mbeumo at £60m with likely £200k pw wages isn’t that for me. This season was a big output, but if he’s back to 1 in 3.5, is it good value?

But but, i thought they were out of money by Christmas ?

Yeaaaaaahhhhh, Brexit Jim says sorry that they had to brutalise and sack the pleb workforce, fuck OAPs and raise ticket prices all around, but is comfortable dropping £122.5m in the first week of the transfer window, without wages factored in.

Or our slapstick comedy value overlords have bailed them out the shit with that nonsensical deal for Fernandes.

Nah, I don't buy that. A winger scoring every 3.5 games in the Prem is pretty solid, and with assists factored in, that's a killer G/A ratio. He's played 98 games (not counting last season), with 22 goals and 21 assists – that's a goal or assist every two games! If he was ours, we'd definitely want more than sixty million.

You can rule him out because we can't afford him, not because sixty million isn't good value.

Today is the day we get a David Ornstein tweet.

#MCFC open negotiations with #NUFC for Bruno Guimaraes. Player + agent keen to make move before Club World Cup. Nothing agreed yet but deal advancing.

My thoughts on the Mbuemo rumour (is there any real proof?) is that he's a 25 year old at the peak of his game, will command at least £50m fee, high wages and 1st team action. Nothing wrong with that except for a minor detail called Murphy. He's a 30 year old at the peak of his game, had an amazing season and costs a fraction of Mbuemo's wages. I'm all for the need for quality of depth of the squad but do we really need to replace Murphy right now? wouldn't it be better to buy a much cheaper, younger, 'up and coming' right winger (a bit like Dibling but not him) give him a yeat to be Howe'd and then gradually replace Murphy.

We need to replace Murphy with a lot better player who will start. He is great team player, but nowhere near good enough.
