I suppose we need to bite the bullet and accept that we're going to be signing one decent striker for way too much money just so we can line up a functional XI every week. Whether it be JSL for 60m, Wissa for 50m, or whatever.

 

The more exciting "Isak replacement" would have to come in a later window, and he may not even cost that much more than the eventual backup striker we acquire this window, but that's just the realities of the market for you.

Until the window closes it's too early to jump to too many conclusions but how about this. Even with a motivated Isak (extremely unlikely) and Wissa (who knows) we are unlikely to finish higher than 5th and with the questions marks about them both that's being optimistic.

 

Without Isak and even with two good strikers (looking very unlikely) we are somewhere between 5-9th presuming that we get two good strikers and Spurs and Man U among others under perform.

 

Buy just Wissa and we are probably around 8th.

 

In conclusion spending 60m on the likes of Jackson or JSL or someone similar will probably still mean we don't get top 6 or 7 so why do it. Look again in January or next summer and learn the lessons from this summer.

We are unlikely regardless imo, the top 5 have pulled away. We are nowhere near them in terms of strength in depth.

To make up for it,I'll throw out a name you've never heard but it's a bit of out of the box thinking for a Wilson replacement. Martijn Kaars of Madgeburg. 25 years old who bangs them in the German 2nd tier. Wouldn't cost 5 million. Not an eye catching signing but I'm just throwing a different name out there. Or Ermedin Demirovic of Stuttgart. 27 years old, scored 15 last season in Bundesliga 1. 30 million ish.

Well we beat Liverpool with Isak and without him IMO we drop from 5th to around 8th or 9th. If we don't sign a striker at least at Wissa's level it will be mid table.

So basically write this season off?

 

If we are finishing mid-table, I doubt we keep a hold of our better players, and I wouldn't blame them for wanting to leave. We are going to need a serious rebuild if that happens.

 

I mean, i get what you're saying. Why spend huge chunks of money simply for the sake of spending it when we can wait for something better to come along.

I agree but over a season not having someone of Isak quality will be a difference maker. That’s all I’m saying. That’s why we want £150m for him

We didn't lose any of those games last season though. Was home games against 2 of them we struggled more in
