Villa don't really go after players that the top six would want, and to be fair maybe that is the optimal strategy for a club in our position.

(They also have a much better youth pipeline than we do).

Probably because they aren’t stupid. We are probably unlucky with Munoz but if a Spain international is 23 and will go for 40m you expect some competition.

I know we like to Glaze Villa but they've been extremely fortunately tbh. If our owners didn't exist the are facing points deductions. Take away that European revenue and they are basically Everton. 

 

Our strategy, which we seemingly have recently adopted is sensible. We need a raft to keep us a float whilst we grow revenue. Player trading is the best way to do it. 

 

Let's put it this way, paying 55m for Wissa is much more damaging than missing out on Munoz.

I have a feeling that Amanda was the reason why we managed to sign players like Bruno, Trippier and Gordon. She showed passion and motivation and that’s why players chose us.

 

There is no passion, no ambition from the people who’s in charge for our recruitment. And players are not choosing us because we are not convincing about our ambition.

 

We will keep missing out on player after player because other teams show more passion and ambition and players want that,

To be fair the club was a much easier sell in the early days of the takeover. It was the beginning of waking up a sleeping giant. Come here and be a hero, a legend. I’d imagine that is where Amanda found a lot of success. But we don’t have that line to sell anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if some players and agents (probably rightly) assume that it's impossible for us or anyone else to break into the top six under the current regime of financial regulations.

Club seriously need to learn putting deadline in transfer negotiations. When we just let these last for week’s, other clubs have time to react.

 

We had ”positive talks” with Munoz for weeks and Liverpool closed in really quickly. We need to learn that, otherwise it’s just going to be disappointment afer disappointment.

Not saying it’s just you here but I think people are vastly misunderstanding our SCR position. If we assume Livramento now stays due to injury, then we almost certainly need to sell one of Tonali or Hall to balance our 26/27 SCR. The idea we’d add a new starting midfielder before getting one of those deals done is probably fantasy land, and would then leave us massively exposed when trying to negotiate any sale.

I think it’s to do with the change In perception of us over that time. When the takeover first happened “we were the richest club in the world”. And going to sign m’bappe. Now we’re viewed through a more tempered lens.

 

 

 

We seem to move very slow, and we’re very risk averse. We need to change this.

Personally as I’ve said previously I didn’t want this player anyway. Everything I’ve seen suggests he’s the type that likes space to run in to, and teams have figured out if they deny us that they can beat us. The fact we tried to sign him

makes me worried we haven’t learned our lesson about needing more techical players, which for next season might be the biggest problem.

 

i was more disappointed in us not getting Yohanna, and i’d still prefer if we went and got ibrahim mbaye.

Is it just me or is 18 June not early in the transfer window? Especially in a World Cup year. 

 

According to Sky Sports list there have been 3 incoming transfers for PL clubs for money so far. Munoz to Liverpool will make 4.

It is, but we know we have to be fast, it's been acknowledged by all parties as per reports that last season can't be repeated. 

 

Eddie needs time to get these new lads up to speed, his job depends on it.

Amazing how much insight can be gained from a handful of tweets saying Liverpool hijacked the deal.

Agreed, but it would've been fast if it had happened. IMO the problem is the failure, not the moment of failure.
