Huijsen had been impressed by our project apparently, Real came in for him relatively late.

You think we were his second choice?

The release clause was positioned that so many other clubs with more available resources would've got him before us. Nee harm in trying but that was never happening. Same with Delap - worth trying but always likely a bigger wage team would come in for him.

JP - only Chelsea would do that

Elanga and Trafford - that's our own. We don't even have competition, we are knee deep in the haggle

this the state of the club right now.

titanic night GIF

we may as well give our CL place up to Villa or Forest

It's 2nd of july - at tad early for crisis mode

The state of this thread. The window is open for another 2 months yet.

There is plenty of time but a long list of things to still grow the concern.

Howe saying speed is key and nothing still

Lack of first team additions in 18 months.

Aging squad with more fixtures next year.

CEO going and sporting director gone meaning deal pushers and makers gone.

Going for targets assuming they were first choice and missing out.

Offering deals to Ruddy and Wilson for some reason.

Press now saying limited budget but 4 or 5 key areas needed.

First round of players due to return next week and no  "breakthrough".

Lack of communication now bar Howe who can't answer it all.

Lack of news on sponsors talked about last August.

Lack of news on "imminent" stadium decision.

None of it is really bed wetting but gets glued together to fuel a fairly grim narrative even if it is in our heads.

Just a little over a month until the season starts and we haven't got a single player in. Can understand people starting to panic a little when we need a lot of players to prepare for a season with CL.

Saw Everton signed that Alcaraz for £15M. Shame. Him and Ndaye are tidy players.

Liked Alcaraz even when he was at Saints. Strange player though as he does not seem to readily fit into traditional positions, IMHO.

We should have moved on from that level of talent though which sounds a strange thing to say considering our transfer success this window

I’m telling myself that we have the money there and deals ready to go but are trying to decide where best to pivot towards, that it’s just a case of waiting for things to fall into place, other situations to become clearer before we make final decisions. That’s what i’m telling myself anyway. It’s hard not to picture us haphazardly slapping bids in only to get rejected left, right and centre. We were told everything was ready to go for this summer and we’re still stuck at the red lights at the minute.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Samu Aghehowa from Porto, and they will face competition from Aston Villa. From 4-4-2

This rumour been mentioned yet? I ain't trawling through pages of gobbledegook to find out.

Maybe not Alcarez. But that’s value in players that might not end up elite.
Ismaila Sarr was less than £20m iiirc. Not saying him but there’s good value out there for 1 or 2 squad players at decent fees.

agreed. We have had a lot on field success in a very short period of time and I get the sense that building the off field infrastructure to either maintain and further those ambitions is lagging and understandably so considering Cashly hollowed out the club in every way he could.

Building that up will take time and I am talking about revenue streams, facilities, sponsorship etc, and pipelines of players from feeder teams, to your point around squad players and then a plan for elite additions. Not too mention the impact of leadership turnover plus DOFs. The only leadership consistency has been EH and team.

We targeting the Elite now because we have material gaps of quality in the squad, and the club will likely rely on the like of Willock, Longstaff etc as squad players for now. Its going to take a long time to be where we would like to be and it's a well oiled machine

I'd regard a CM as an important signing, just behind RW and alongside support at CB & CF. It's as crucial as those two positions imo as we can't be relying on Longstaff or Willock in any meaningful games; nor can we expect Joelinton, Bruno and Tonali to play multiple times a week given the intensity we play with.

I'm think  that we maybe we are in a situ whereby due to Howes intransigence with the type of player we require, and could that potentially be the reason why no one has been signed over the last three windows, maybe I'm wrong

I agree, but we all know Howe will want key players in and on his training schedule.

The RW, GK and CB at a minimum we want to be starting from day one.
