NUFC Transfer Rumours

Its got nowt to do with "not being allowed to have an opinion". It's talking baseless bullshit and getting called out for it.

You could have said:

In my opinion not all is well behind the scenes.

Or

I wonder if not all is well behing the scenes?

Nobody would have come at you.

The reality is this:

We've not signed a player because we've got a limited pot of money, not an insignificant amount of money but its only going to go so far.

For every deal we are doing, we need to count every penny (or million) because if we dont, towards the back end of the window when we want that back up striker, centre midfielder or full back, if we've over spent in other areas we won't be able to do it.

We could sign Elanga and Trafford tommorow and still have money for a CB, for example, but is that all we want? We've all talked about needing quite a few bodies, well we cant get a those bodies if we blow our entire budget on 2/3 players. It's saving money now, so we've got wriggle room later.

Let's say Forest are asking for 65m for Elanga. We could pay it... or we could try and shave 10m off the fee, via negotiation, incentives and clauses. Taking out time to do that might just be the difference in us signing a striker in late August or at least giving us the option to do so.

Ive heard loads of people saying "just shop abroad for cheaper players" but that only works if they are good players (which is subjective), I'm sure we'd not waste a second if we could find someone like Huijsen, but for every Huijsen at 10m, you get an Antony/Sancho for 80m.

Im persistently checking twitter and here like everyone else and sure its frustrating but cry arsing or making up negative bullshit on a football forum isn't the answer.

We will sign players, its to what standard and how many which is the question but let's dissect is after?

Yeah agree with alot of this.

I can totally believe that our team doing transfers are not a well oiled machine that can pull off multiple deals and slick as say Liverpool or Man City could do currently. But I'm sure we have sufficient bodies that can push through a deal once we know the player we want.

I can imagine the process may just be abit slower and maybe it will be one deal at a time. But as the quoted message says, we have a strict budget and multiple positions to fill, so the balance of getting deals done but not overspending is difficult.

Plus no one has any clue what PIF are thinking as they don't communicate fuck all and perhaps getting funds approved by them is proving difficult or slow.

But yeah I don't think we need to panic yet so to speak, but I imagine there is shared frustration that the players we wanted are being snapped up by others first.

Not quiiiiiite what I had in mind, I thought Trafford was "pretty much done" about 5 days ago according to our stellar local journos.

Not just them but Big Fab Romano also had him just about “here we go” 🤮ready.

Are you confident, considering how long it takes us to do a deal?

Aye. Granted the Trafford transfer is both confusing and frustrating, I don't think we're particularly slow when doing deals.

The agitation is understandable now imo. It’s nearly 6 weeks since the Everton game where Howe stressed the importance of acting quickly. We’ve done absolutely nothing.

It might not be as concerning if we’d done something in the previous three windows, but we didn’t. I don’t know what the issue is, but there clearly is one.

By all accounts we made pitches for Delap and Huijsen, then got fucked off by Pedro. It's not like we've been inactive.

In previous windows, we've been inactive due to maxing out our PSR budget. This time around we've arguably been trying to shop in a crowded market. I have no doubt we'll be active this window.

I do think there’s a fundamental flaw in our targeted approach.

Did we seriously think we would land Huijsen? JP - I get it.  Bid accepted. Been talking to his agent for years I assume.  Last minute Chelsea come along.  But Huijsen had everyone in Europe after him.

Nothing informed to base this off, but it just comes across that as a club, we’re disjointed at the board level so far.

We haven't got anyone at board level experienced at transfers have we?

Yeah, but one of the issues might be going after players we had little chance of getting. It’s their job to assess the market and do the homework. We tried is no excuse.

We seem to be haggling over a keeper we’ve been after for a year and offering less than what Everton paid for Pickford a decade ago.

I told the doctor I couldn’t stop pissing the bed.

They just asked ‘Newcastle fan?’

When I said yes, they told me to get out. Makes you think.

I agree on the Trafford deal, not really sure what's going on there.

I know it'll be met with a massive sigh/eye roll, but this is why it's best to just see how it plays out. Sure it's frustrating, but I'll be astonished if we get a repeat of last summer.

I think the club are clearly working on deals.  It’s just frustrating we aren’t seeing much progress at all, we’ve had nothing solid to say we are close or advancing on any player really.  Eddies first interview after Celtic will be very interesting

Brief summary cutting out all the guff?

Most important lines to me:

With Marc Guehi interest having cooled, Newcastle are also working on deals for a defender and a Joao Pedro alternative that are yet to hit the public domain.

Their preference, understandably, is for names to emerge only at a late stage in the deal.

Huijsen had been impressed by our project apparently, Real came in for him relatively late.
