I thought after the takeover transfer windows were gonna be great fun

95% of them have been fucking infuriating for one reason or other

The ultimate goal of the cartel and where this is all heading is that nobody but them can buy players. If clubs like us want to buy a player then we must buy from them. When we do, they will add a buy back clause so that they can re-sign them should they become too good for us. We shall sell all of our best players to them for fees dictated to us by them. If we over perform and decide we need new players to sustain this, we shall be punished through means of fine, points deductions and the forceable sale of our players. We will exist to serve the cartel only.

All this cartel talk is boring. They've had 2 years to build up a transfer list and it's literally the same targets as last year. The staff can take some responsibility. Not every day blame the cartel clubs.

You all had it right a few pages back regarding individuals in the background. I've been hinting for over 12 months about the issues but i am tied to how far i can. You cant have roadblocks in the way and have a competent backroom, something has to give and so far everything is falling one way

the list is the same as the people we brought in behind gthe scenes were friends of friends and there are people on the other side there for the same reason rather than merit.

I know DA took a lot of heat for how he left but he was clever enough and political enough to navigate these issues, others who come in like battering rams will struggle. This will be a similar issue with the next guy and persuading them to come in

I  am sure we should be able to identify 5 players in the whole world that want to come and we can (afford/ attract) and are good enough to improve us.

We have a huge network of scouts and data that should be available to locate talent

Brighton / Brentford / Bournemouth have all managed to pick a few gems every year.

We’ve also picked a few good ones in the last 3 years.

No excuses this summer as we also have champions league again to help our negotiations.

That's the bit that I find most infuriating. Nothing wrong with having consistent top targets and working across multiple windows to secure them, but it feels like the list is still incredibly limited and when we're inevitably gazumped or strung along and used as a stalking horse for Chelsea or whoever else's benefit we don't seem to have an alternative ready to quickly react and move onto.

We tried!

 just because you're sick of hearing it doesn't mean it isn't true.

They control the market. The boss said as much himself.

Yes this bother me a little bit. Its not like we are trying to find replacements for Rodri and Aguero. Its Longstaff and Wilson, someone better than Osula.

Does the Longstaff transfer pretty much cover the fee for Elanga in a PSR world?

No they’re very separate transactions. According to the last set of accounts we would have £90M of amortisation in the 25/26 season. Add on Elanga‘s £10M, the Longstaff fee is £88M short of covering Elanga’s fee.

Agreed. The level of risk aversion with Howes approach to players is borderline ridiculous. It’s like they all need to be the somewhat finished article and do exactly the job he needs them to do. But those are the type of player that go for a premium and who everyone else wants. Fuck me, do some actual scouting, find someone who could be a bit of a diamond in the rough and roll the dice.

Yep. But we don't have a proper recruitment team in place.

If City get Trafford... Mike Maignan anyone??

I'm sure Chelsea were in discussions of around £15m. Not bad at all for a keeper of his calibre, 30 years old, could probably go to Saudi too after a few years. Google says his wages are €70k pw

While I'm thinking of random players, Douglas Luiz too? Sure he's been touted for around £30m or so... Though wages could be an issue. 27 years old and would be a great 3rd/4th choice

Maignan and Luiz for ~£45m wouldn't be a bad way to strengthen GK and CM whilst our primary targets are unavailable / seemingly hard to get done

Think this one or Rudoni happens:

Atletico Madrid could be forced to sell England midfielder Conor Gallagher, 25, after exceeding the number of non-EU players they are allowed to register under La Liga rules. (Cope via Goal)

These are the sorts of deals we should be considering, and I'd like to think we are.

Are they absolutely optimal in terms of age? Not really. But in the same way we spent a period chasing Botman in that first January window then quickly moved onto Burn when we got priced out, we should be willing to be flexible.

Plus, as you say, the Saudi "Get Out of Jail Free" card is there in the future.

Would be a fantastic addition imo, at the right sort of price.

Would love us to get Gallagher in. Ideal for Eddie and an upgrade on Longy.

Yeah. If we are going to keep missing out on our first, second and third choice targets for a position. I think we’ll have to pivot to a different profile and still look for an upgrade or significant competition.

Not ideal in this PSR world we are trying to navigate. But I don’t think we’re in a position to hang tight until a certain player becomes available or for example, not spending on a CB as it was supposedly Guehi or nobody.

3 outfield players are required or we will be in for a long old season.
