Gk isn’t “essential” this summer, CB and striker is.

If we can that those two players in it hasn’t been a bad window. It wouldn’t have been a great one but at least it gives us something resembling depth.

Just don’t see it though. Glacially slow on all fronts of acquiring players.

Theres still plenty of time but the glacial levels of speed and “strategy” or lack of is a concern.

The club will be thinking they’ve still got 40 days to go, or whatever. It’s annoying that we’ve missed out on Ekitike but his price has gone crazy anyway.

I wouldn’t really be anxious at all except for the possibility of selling Isak.

We occupy an awkward position in the football food chain. We have built a CL calibre team but still operate on a mid table PL budget. To consolidate our position and establish ourselves as a perennial CL we need to build depth but the calibre of player require for that leap has gone up a tier.

We're now fishing in the same pond as the cartel and European giants. They all have the best in class fishing gear whilst we're still using our Fisher Price rod and net.

There's every chance we'll still get one or two bits of quality in but we'll have to wait until the cartel have had their share first.

We can't compete with them in terms of finance, nor should we, 90mil all in all for Ekitike is fucking nuts man

I'd be interested to know where we consider our academy to be at right now, and if there's really anyone in the building on a first team trajectory in the short term. It's not like we need reminders but the transfer window, so far, further demonstrates the need to develop our own stars.

If where sitting waiting on Guehi then we really will deserve criticism at the end of the window.

Lot of factors at play here the main one being we just can’t afford the players Howe wants. I’m not convinced Howe is going to veer from his methods and just resort to a pool B of targets.

At this point I doubt we have a pool B of targets. Our transfer strategy is clearly not fit for purpose for the stage of growth where at. The last DOF warned of this last summer and received pelters.

Nobody has shown anything remotely resembling PL quality.. and I think anybody who participated in the Australian demolition is dead for Eddie, so apart from Leo Shahar and Sean Nieve probably, don't think we'll have anybody around the first team, unless Murphy and Joe White impress a lot in the friendlies

Hmmm good question, have we done much other than poached some young players? Do we have a philosophy of how these kids are meant to play? So we have best in class facilities and coaching?

I guessed it would take us 10 years to catch up at academy level, of course it's very difficult to gauge where we are but I'm not sure it's promising.

Sadly there’s not a single one of them anywhere close this year.

I don't think there's anything to definitively say we're not making progress there, I'd just be interested to know what the vision and trajectory is I guess. Agree that it'll probably be a long haul given the neglect and disinterest shown under the previous administration. It's not that long ago that Beardsley was there ffs.

And now Harper is running it, he might be good he might be bad but he doesn't get that job anywhere else.

I think your question about vision and Trajectory are good, it's a bit of an unknown as nothing is communicated as per usual for the club.

Did Chelsea's academy head ever get a new job out of interest? We should have been offering the world to him.

One of Eddie’s most interesting quotes yesterday was that it’s important to get the squad in a good shape (squad size / transfer wise) in the week leading up to the start of the season. So it sounds like every effort will be made to get a couple of signings minimum in in the next 3 weeks.

Have you received any more insight recently on our transfer business?

Would assume that is always the goal for every club tbf.

One or two posters have said CM isn't a priority. I think it was an area of need even with Longstaff, as he and Willock arguably don't offer enough these days. Now that Sean's gone, we at least need a body in there to provide cover for our three starters. Ideally I'd replace Sean and Willock with better, perhaps more creative, higher ceiling players, but that seems a pipe dream at the moment.

I think if we take on the upcoming season without the additions we need, it'll only be a matter of time before the squad and our season breaks down. I think Eddie knows this but whether he's being enabled to fix that remains to be seen.
