Shagger coming or what? [emoji38]

Probably have to wait for Eddie's confirmation email, first he has to cut the grass, clean the windows of the training ground, sort out some contracts for catering for next season, do HR training, do all the Health and Safety rish assessments and sort out the AI policy for staff.

There are absolutely loads of players out there who would improve us right now that we aren't signing. Either our scouts aren't finding them or our manager won't consider them.

I don't get the fixation with only wanting to sign from this tiny pool of about a dozen players over a period of years. Yes, by all means target them first and try get the best we can in, but when it doesn't happen why aren't we immediately making a move for the next best alternative.

A lot to agree with in this post but this especially.

Aim high, absolutely, but I really hope we have multiple alternatives that we can move to. I could be misremembering but isn't that what happened with Burn? We spent most of that first window chasing Botman, asking price went up every time we made a bid. Eventually we pulled the plug and made the deal for Burn quite quickly.

We want 20-24 year-olds who can potentially come straight into the team but we also have to be willing to look at players who don't tick all the boxes - a few years older, maybe coming off a poorer season or have had injury trouble. It's what got us Burn, Tino, Isak. We brought in Bruno when others hesitated. Trust the scouts that identified those players.

I get the feeling that having accepted we won't sell Isak, certainly this summer, the bin dippers are buying Ekitike with a view to offering Ekitike and cash in part ex for Isak, either in January or next summer.  Hopefully Ekitike flops in the EPL and the bin dippers are stuck with him for 6 very expensive years!!!

Someone said it perfectly the other day - we're looking for upgrades on Longstaff, Wilson, Schar/Burn and Pope not Rodri, Haaland, Gvardiol and Ederson. There's fucking loads of players who would improve us - even when you put the managers key "filters" on the market e.g. can press, not a dickhead, strong, quick etc.

Eddie's comments about the market being tough and we can't control it etc are spot on, but that's the same for everyone outside the "cartel" and many of the other clubs seem to move, react and secure deals a hell of a lot faster than we do. We are slow movers in everything and it's really starting to harm us.

I'll judge it properly when the window closes of course but TL;DR version so far is we've made a difficult situation even harder by being stubborn, indecisive and slow.

100% agree with this. It’s like you got into my brain. Been having the same thoughts but couldn’t articulate it like this.

I'd hate to criticise Eddie for anything but I think he puts too much importance on the player's character and mentality. He can easily get extensive info on that through his links in English football.

But as far as random young European talent.. I think we simply lack the business connections and scouting forensics to get credible information that a player is motivated to run, learn and improve for Newcastle United. So we have to rely more on agents, dodgy third-parties etc..

Due to PSR, any 60m mistake we make (and subsequently can't shift) can burden us for years and years.. unlike Man Utd, Chelsea etc we can't absorb even one or two without having to sell players that perform for us. Thankfully Eddie's meticulousness has avoided that. But I understand why he's extremely careful with the budget.

AI Overview

Evann Guessand, a striker for OGC Nice, has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, among other Premier League clubs. Newcastle scouts have reportedly been monitoring his progress. The interest in Guessand comes as Newcastle seeks to bolster their attacking options and potentially replace departing players like Andy Carroll.

There should be a bingo card for these sort of posts...

"EXCLUSIVE"

"Personal terms not expected to be an issue"

"Club X are considering/monitoring/watching/preparing/pushing..." thesaurus in overdrive

"Player Y only wants Club Z"

"Player A says yes to Club B project, club to club talks here we go"

They're all designed to create traffic linked to advertising or brand deals they'll already have agreed. You would think when they're naming the agency behind a player they've been given the nod as a journalist and advised to mention in the hope it increases players on their agency. Either way this summer has been painful!
