NUFC Transfer Rumours

These are the sorts of deals we should be considering, and I'd like to think we are.

Are they absolutely optimal in terms of age? Not really. But in the same way we spent a period chasing Botman in that first January window then quickly moved onto Burn when we got priced out, we should be willing to be flexible.

Plus, as you say, the Saudi "Get Out of Jail Free" card is there in the future.

Would be a fantastic addition imo, at the right sort of price.

Yeah agree, and Gallagher would be great in a Howe team

Elanga £55m

Luiz £30m

Maignan £15

Those 3 for £100m would be great business. 1 long term RW secured, and the other 2 would provide value for 3-5 years and could be sold to Saudi

Then split the rest across the ST/CB

For reference if we look at our long term targets we've bid for, and what they've went for/rumoured to go for

Pedro £60m

Elanga £55m

rafford £40m

Thats £155m, still wanting a CM too with that. Of course these long term targets are younger than the previous suggestions, but yeah, there's value out there I'm sure

After watching that today and the games towards the back end of last season, if we don’t sign a creative midfielder/10 where fucked.

It’s Howe’s major blind spot for me and Elanga won’t solve the problem we’ve got breaking down teams.

I’d say our lack in squad strength is the major factor. Some of the fringe players are quite frankly shite and no where near champions league ready.

We cannot keep shopping in the same class as the very top teams without being willing to pay the top wages. You can't have one without the other.

We can continue to buy players on the cusp of greatness but that requires luck, scouting, and cohesion in the backroom we seem to lack at the moment.

I doubt we're even looking for someone of that profile. We've battered most of the bottom-half teams as it is.

Our competitive advantage over other clubs is EH and his ability to improve players. This suggests we should not be looking at PL ready players. They’re just too expensive.

What was the reason why Maignan never went to Chelsea? If it was wages then we will have same issues. Otherwise 15m for him does seem like a bargain.

Even if we could match the wages, we won't have the pull of the really top clubs until we start winning stuff and making a name for ourselves across the world. Clubs like Chelsea and Man City took a short cut by paying MORE than the top clubs while they were still trying to catch up.

But yeah it's pretty clear that if the cartel clubs are after the same player, we are not going to be successful. If we've a back up strategy we are keeping it well hidden. The small pool of players line just means we are going into a CL campaign with an inadequate squad. Again.

We can’t compete financially wages wise with the tradition big 6 and it’s obviously costing us signings, just look at who we’ve missed. But that begs the question what’s the point in going for them in the first place? The sporting director situation or complete lack of this summer is hurting us too, the Mitchel situation has been a complete mess. We’re four years into the takeover and we’ve still got people including the manager scrabbling around doing extra roles. Eales needs replacing and we need a new sporting director in ASAP. We’re not behaving like an elite club off the pitch.

Edit: on Eales, he’s been out the door for a year now ffs, the club needs to pull Its finger out and get moving, need action.

Agreed, I have no real take on the whole “Saudis don’t care about us anymore” argument. Ultimately, we’ve learned that they have other priorities ahead of us but not really learnt how important we are in the last two years. Whether that’s down to a lack of interest or PSR regulation hamstringing us or PIF being a convoluted mess when it comes to sign off is difficult to discern. It’s potentially a mixture of all three.

What can’t be denied is that for whatever reason we are a mess off the pitch and until some of the things you highlighted are sorted - namely Sporting Director, CEO, Training facilities, Stadium, major Sponsorships - we’re going to be in this limbo space of not moving forward properly as a club

Totally agree mate. This is all going to piss Howe off though, I mean he’s worked miracles ffs and the one summer where he needed a rest and let others take control of a crucial transfer window he’s had to step in again because we have no figurehead leading negotiations. We’ve signed one player and wasted weeks and weeks chasing players who’ve ended up signing for other clubs in a matter of days. The off the field stuff is embarrassing and needs sorting.

What’s the situation with Guehi? Surely we can meet Palace’s demands now? Same goes with Trafford. Just get them done.

How can we "just get Trafford done" if City has a buyback clause they are willing to use?

Fair, but if we knew this why bother going for him at all? All I’m trying to say is we should stop lowballing for players we really want. It’s a small pool as Howe said so make it count.

If that’s the case then we’re fucked but I’ll be damned if Trafford is the only decent keeper we’ve scouted under the age of 23. If we’ve put all of our eggs in one basket and are unwilling to pay the fee then I’m sorry but this is 100% our scouting team or whoever identifies players fuck up.
