[Nine]

Ramsdale has it in him but Pope has been pretty immense again to start the season. 
 

I’ll always go back to it though - we will eventually need a keeper with feet on the pitch.

I've felt the same since the season began, and now with Tino out and Hall needing lots of time management, it seems even more important. This may be the last productive season of Trips too as he's getting on.

 

Ideally we can identify a fullback who can play both sides with a bit of pace. 

We need two. Think we will bring one in January with a view of bedding them in ready for 26-27.

 

I’d be looking at a RCB that can play RB (with Schar gone) and then a natural LB. 
 

Acheampong is still the guy I’m adamant we should be going all out for. Ticks that RCB/RB and he will be as good as Hall over next 18 months. LB, someone top class as Hall can be bumped into midfield at times. Unsure who ticks the LB box there as not clued up on European landscape as I once was.

When I say top class, it’s someone who’s established and 25+. With Hall / Tino / Acheam, they would be all under 22, so it’s a balance then for some experience.

With us buying Ramsey and having Joelinton, I can't see us buying an attacking midfielder tbh. The LCM for us seems to be the one who has more licence to go forward 

 

Could see us more getting adequate cover for Bruno / Tonali, Anderson would be perfect. Or maybe Miley comes on loads 

 

A full back is a must too.

He's talked alot about the players needing to learn about how to get the best out of Woltemade and I'm not sure either Elanga or Murphy quite hit that profile. 

 

Seems clear Elanga was bought with Isak in mind.

I think Elanga is. One of the things they said about him was his ability to come in between full back and centre half on the break which you'd think would be ideal to feed off a deep dropping Wolt, also at Forest he fed Wood with highs ,lows and cutbacks.

Depending on how the season goes I wouldn't be too shocked if a LW is on the agenda next summer.

 

Very confident that Woltemade alongside at least one winger who is a genuine difference maker would make a massive difference.

 

Maybe that difference maker is already here but if it's not then I wouldn't be too shocked to see the club try to get one if funds allow.

Next summer my hope would be that GK and LCM will be the positions we target for players that are expected to go straight into the first team.

 

With the Isak money I would be hoping that we can just go out and spend big on the absolute best GK that we can attract. No need to arse around hoping we can rehabilitate Ramsdale, and frankly I would hope we maybe aim a bit higher than Trafford too. The likes of Simon, Kobel, Costa, go get one of them and be sorted for the guts of the next decade.

 

Joelinton will forever be a legend but it’s pretty clear that to take the next step as a team we need someone who’s better on the ball than he is. Maybe Ramsey absolutely takes us by storm this season but as of this moment it’s the weakest spot in our outfield strongest eleven IMO.

 

If we can get two absolutely top class players for those spots, I would then be hoping we have identified some quality youngsters that we can bring in to round out the squad that hopefully won’t break the bank. I figure at some point we will figure out how to scout young prospects abroad, right?
 

A quality backup for Hall at LB is an obvious area of need, fair chance this is the last season for both Schar and Trippier too so they'll need to be replaced in the squad. Possibility that we see Murphy move on too and bring in some different competition for Elanga, though I think we might not move on that for another season.

 

An interesting one could be LW. Big season for Gordon, if he has another patchy one and we have a window to spend big then maybe we look to upgrade.

I’m pretty confident Ramsdale will be made permanent. He’ll do a decent job when called upon and at some point Pope will get injured and he’ll get a run in the team. He’s also probably a better keeper than Trafford right now and is only 27.

My thoughts for next summer are mainly around strengthening midfield, we’re in massive trouble of Bruno or Tonali get injured;
Willock out / Anderson or Ederson in

Ramsey out / Frattesi in (if it doesn’t work out obviously, which I don’t think it will, but we’ll see)

LB/RB backup

Ramsdale

I’d also be interested in a LW like Nusa if we get a bid for Barnes or Gordon

I’ve always doubted whether he’ll be able to handle the way we play without breaking down. I don’t want to write him off, it’s nothing personal.

For me it depends on how we see Miley as the drop off from Bruno and Tonali is huge. Assuming Miley bridges the gap there's still one to cover. 

 

Also could Woltemade be an evolution, moving away from 433 ? Long throws have made a comeback, could 442 ? Eddie said he wanted Ekitike to play alongside Isak.

We need fullback cover and probably do need to eventually move one of the backup wingers and bring in a younger challenger. I assume we will be opportunistic on striker front too where Osula could be sold and another brought in.

This season is the last chance saloon for Osula to step up. He's going to have plenty of minutes with Wissa being out. He's definitely looked like an  improved player but he needs to start banging them in or it's time to get rid and replace.

Where probably an Odegaard type of player away from being really top drawer. Who that player is I have no idea, but we lack something as proven last Sunday at the really top level.

It’s the type of signing I hope we make next summer. Probably someone from the continent, the big six have hoovered up most of the good options?

Next summer will be two young wingers as Barnes and murphy will be away, and a midfielder to take some heat of the lads and give them a rest.

We don’t “need” anything tbh. We should just be looking for the best player available who can truly elevate the quality of the team, regardless of position.

The issue with this view is that it places Woltemade as the creator and the wingers as the beneficiaries when for the most part it needs to be the other way round. 

 

The question is how do we get Woltemade scoring more goals? 

 

Alot of his goal from intricate one touch passing in and around the box, which is a difficult skill that not all players have in their locker and I think Murphy and Elanga dont quite fit that bill as more traditional wingers, although Im not saying Elanga isnt capable of that, just that I dont think its his strength. 

 

Gordon and especially Barnes certainly have it.
