NUFC Transfer Rumours

I don’t really understand all the calls for a LB in this thread. I mean, we have one of the best ones in the country in Hall, and I’d argue Tino’s also looked better for us on the left than he has on the right, so make that two of the best at LB. We’ll need to replace Trippier though, that’s the most pressing need in terms of the full back positions imo.

This is probably not going to happen, but to get the most out of Woltemade I think we have to swap to a 4231/442. I'd add a striker to compete with Wissa.

Think today once again proved this point.

Wolte as a lone striker in this team will not work in the long run.

Not even working short term

A Hickey or Koyade from Brentford, or Walker-Pieters from West Ham all whom can play both sides would be ideal backup to both Hall and Livramento.

I said it yesterday on this thread that we need a RB (an athletic one who can play CB too) and a LB - 2 full time players on each side

You can then change it up and play Tino at LB if you so wish to on the odd occasion but we should never be in the position whereby we see Tino as a genuine LB option because we only have one full time LB at the club - that’s basically neglect on the clubs behalf

I actually think everyone seems to have forgotten just how poor Livramento was at RB and for how long.  His switch to LB improved his form somewhat.

He was never really poor at right back imo, defensively one Vs one he's one of the best in the league. It's the end product which needs work.

We need 2 fullbacks in the next 2 windows, we can't expect Tino and Hall to play every minute, fullbacks cover so much ground and have to be rotated.

He didn’t play well for an extended period at RB - players get better when they’re not playing

I thought he was fine, only gripe I had was his end profuct which is fine as it's a trade off between that and his defensive work.

The problem is the system we use requires the FBs to overlap - and Livramento isn’t great at it.  Missing our first choice FBs is a massive problem, but I think many are anticipating a quick fix when they return.

Given we play with an orthodox right winger I'm not sure we do need Tino overlapping tbh. That being said his output hasn't been good enough going forward generally and he doesn't really suit inverting in to midfield either.

Our squad planning/recruitment had been left wanting recently tbh.

Tino can easily be a RCB when we build up and Hall is the one pushing on. More pace in the recovery transition at the back. Effectively like Walker was for Man City past few seasons. He can still get forward at times, but primarily he sits deep. That’s something that can Tino can do and stops us being so vulnerable on transitions.

Just when he comes out, Krafth / Trippier is an immediate change in style, then when Hall is out for Burn, it’s even more so. Why we need to sign two players who can play in full back areas that are of similar skill sets to both (Pace on right, technical ability on left).

I wouldn’t worry. Brownbottle thinks Gazza was overrated…

Yeah, that’s a good point - it’s far more needed on the left with our two inverted wingers.
