NUFC Transfer Rumours

As in right this second? Yes, absolutely. Over multiple seasons, I wouldn't say so at all.

Haven't Villa done pretty well over multiple seasons under Emery? They only missed out on CL last season by a whisker, and were unlucky if we are honest. One awful ref's decision put us in the CL instead of them.

Regardless, it's about momentum over a sustained period. They have it, we don't.

Over the last three seasons we've qualified for the Champions League twice, gotten to two finals and won a cup. Aston Villa have qualified once for the Champions League and reached zero finals, winning zero cups. As for momentum, we just qualified for the Champions League, which we look set to progress out of the group stage of, and have just won our first trophy in decades. Villa are basically us, but one year behind us, even with their PSR issues. Even the run they're on right now is not dissimilar to the run we were on at the same time last season. Honestly, I'm half expecting Morgan Rogers to throw his toys out the pram to join Liverpool next summer.

So do you expect us to turn this round and qualify for the CL this season? I don't see it personally, I think we'll improve, but I think we've wasted too many fixtures, and what I've seen from us doesn't fill me with confidence. I could see us finishing 7-10th if we pick our game up.

We’ll qualify for the Champions League by winning the Champions League.

No, just like Villa missed out last season.

Dropped more than £100m on players from Serie A and the Bundesliga this summer.

The approach is more balanced/varied than so many people bleat on about. Everyone who can buys from the PL.

This is an abstraction that ignores the players we are buying - wherever they are from - have been increasingly bad value. We cannot afford misses like Elanga

It's a whatnow? It's a direct response to someone peddling the myth that Howe only wants PL players. Nothing to do with value, which is another discussion altogether.

We're going to have to win a 2 legged affair to qualify out of the group stage, that's no easy task.

It'll be our first CL knockout game ever, in our history. Can we just collectively cheer the fuck up please, Jesus.

One would think that being involved in a 2-legged knockout match by definition means that we're out of the group stage.

Also more likely than not that we're closer to the top than the bottom of the 8-24 bracket. Decent chance we end up with a very easy tie.

If we can't win a two-legged knockout match against the fellows from Azerbaijan or Cyprus, then yes, perhaps I will accept that everything is bad forever.

This is blatantly not true. Of big spenders we spend the largest % of our total outlay on PL players. I don’t know why anyone would defend this.

More of the balanced and varied spending people are bleating on about

The post I initially quoted said Howe was 'averse to taking a risk on foreign players'. I said that's clearly not true because a significant amount of our budget went on foreign players just as recently as this summer. And I said more balanced/varied (than the myth).

There's no denying we like to buy from the PL. So do lots of teams.

I know we won’t but if there was ever a window for us to hammer the Saudi loan market it would be this one

Would those players be motivated any more though ? How long would it take to get them back up to speed with the EPL
