Forgive me I’ve not really been looking has the local media or wider media reported on what our intentions are in the media

If we believe the likes of Hope and Edwards, we are going to be targeting younger signings from abroad. LB,CB and CM seemingly the targets.

Has Kluivert done much since giving us the runaround last season?

For the fee Bournemouth will want for him, it might be better for us to look elsewhere.

We should have been in for him when he went to Bournemouth for €14m.  At that price there was no way he was ever going to lose value.

We have a golden chance to save our season, and you'd hope we'd be on it with reenforcements and have them through the door on day 1. Have we ever been that pro active? Or we just wait till the middle of the month and start looking.

The profile I’d be looking for this window is a left footed midfielder/winger who can take people on, create chances and work in tight situations. Could also do with a defender on loan.

Hope we can go all in for a GK in the summer.

I think the right side is a bigger problem area than the left, granted if it was up to me I'd completely start over on both wings tbh.

Unless you mean left footed but plays on the right side? In which case, by all means carry on.

Be some turn up if we cancelled Ramsdale loan because there’s a clause to do so and signed a GK 6 months early. At worse they sit on bench for that period and integrate into group, at best when Pope gets a knock again, they come in and impress and it’s a position sorted before next season.

Does anyone ever make signings on ‘day 1’?

I'm not sure 30+ PL players is the profile we should be targeting for consistent growth.

Trippier & Lascelles won't be here next season, Schar & Burn maybe have one season left as squad players you'd think. If we got Ake we might even get someone like Leeds or a promoted club who'd think £7-8m for Burn would be worth a shot.

I reckon there's definitely scope and room in the squad for someone like Ake for 2-3 years if his wages and transfer fee aren't going to be daft.

No way we take for 2-3 years considering his injury record. All well and good having experience, but you need them to be available for games.

Think even if he was signed as a back up LB for 2-3 years it would be a poor decision. He’s a good option for rest of this season, but let’s not tie ourselves down.

I hear what you're saying. Adama Traore is git fast and doesn't turn 30 til the back end of the window. £40m should do it if we want it done whilst he's still 29.

I doubt we will sign anyone of note, or if we do they won’t impact this season.

From a recent ESPN article:

I say this at the same time every year, but we always seem to forget it: Most January transfers don't matter.

There has rarely been a signing across the Big Five leagues that genuinely made a difference for an eventual title-winning team. More specifically, via analysis from the consultancy Twenty First Group: "Net transfer spend in January has just a 5% positive correlation with change in points per game, and that €20 million in net spending has delivered on average just a 0.03 increase in points per game in the big five leagues since 2015."

Doesn’t mean it’s impossible of course, but rare that it’s tremendously impactful.

I’d argue that the one of the most important things about getting someone in during January, is that they get full pre-season with you for the next season (depending on WC participation this year I suppose).

Gordon made very little impact in the Jan-May when he first signed, but was absolutely bang on it once the next season started.
