I’d say that was about his best performance as a starter (maybe Man Utd at home last season).

He’s never gonna be a player that’s always heavily involved in a match but we and he need to find a way to of getting him to have more ‘moments’ in a match.

As a everyone says, he’s the best finisher at the club (Wissa can feel free to prove that wrong), so we need to be getting him involved to show that.

We managed to get him involved more last night, mind. Missed a sitter and another great chance. The build up for his goal was class from him. Scored two. Was unlucky with some great play to not have an assist when he played Woltemade through.

First half, despite the misses. His all round play outside the box seemed much better. His decision making on the ball was usually spot on and looked dangerous whenever he drifted infield. Even nailed someone with a slide tackle at one point

Made his mark pretty well last season mind, our best left winger with a very good g+a return and played very well in the final.

That is fair though I feel people only ever saw him as a super sub. He's proving this season he should be starting.

Exactly, that’s why I’d have it down as about his best performance as a starter.

It wasn’t, like too many of his previous starts have been, a game where he wasn’t really involved, but popped up with something class. He’s better than that. We need to try and get him to be a near-constant threat, which he was pretty close to being yesterday.

Still only scores at the Gallowgate

Worrying

But what a player, should have scored 4 but 2 great goals. Links well with others, uses the full back and is probably the best finisher we have. Love him. 🏹

Agreed with whoever said he was under rated in the league cup final. He was superb that entire run.

Not only did he contribute himself in terms of G/A but h actually links up well with his team mates. In the final he creates a good chance with a left foot cross. And for the second goal he plays a good ball to Tino who sends in the cross that Murphy wins.

To a man everyone was excellent that game. We were dangerous for 70 minutes odd.  Defended well.

All of those lads are legends to me and I’ve got a soft spot for every single one of them.

Like I’m sad for Hall, Botman and Almiron that they missed out. Tino, Burn and Murphy are immortal to me in a way they could never be.

Should is a bit harsh. I think could have, for sure. His two goals were harder chances than the two he missed. He made the second look easy. The first was barely a chance.

The open goal and what would usually be a Barnes special in the first 30 seconds are bad misses for him.

Barnes was brilliant in that spell of games, but yesterday showed just how important having genuine ball playing full backs are to the wingers. Imagine it would be the same for Gordon, and might explain his lack of form recently.

Just realised watching MOTD that he won the corner that led to the goal and he recycled possession for Murphy to get his cross in. Also involved in all the carnage near the goal line.

Embarrassing that Donnarumma thinks that’s a foul  Arsenal do far worse every week and it’s never even mentioned.

I cannot believe people not giving him motm. Tonali thiaw the fullbacks were great but he scored two crackers and was the difference between the sides.

Think Tino gets it for me for having not kicked a ball for 6 weeks, gets chucked in the deep end and performs like that for nearly 100 minutes.

Scotland were actually pretty dangerous until Gannon-Doak went off so a player like Barnes would be an absolute game changer for them as would have legitimate threats on both wings. It was night and day for them as basically ended up with 4 cms accross the middle against Denmark after the injury.

Hard to see him ever getting anything than a couple more caps for England. Whereas he could play at least major tournaments as a guaranteed starter for the Scots.

You know it makes sense Harvey!

20 league games no output?

I’ve said it before - Gordon doesn’t link well with his team mates.  He doesn’t use the fullback proactively the way Barnes does. Barnes is more willing to play the fullback in proactively, more willing to use his left foot too. Gordon has been given a long leash by us ans the manager. Barnes has been much more productive over the last 18 months and just better in general.

Gordon needs to earn his place like Barnes has had to do for a while now. He's been allowed to waltz around the pitch and be absolute no threat for too long now without even worrying about his place in the team. If he wants back in he needs to work on finishing and crossing.
