Crystal Palace 2-0 Newcastle United (24/04/24) | Reaction: pg 34

It had the same hallmarks that the other away losses have had. They dont give us space in behind and we start playing way too slow from the back. Isak comes short and gets in to a battle and that is not his game. Then we start trying desperate passes and flicks (Fab, Bruno, Gordon) and just get nowhere. Spurs played to our hand but these knew how to play us.

Also, it does not help when our squad players like Murphy and Krafu have one of their shite games.

On to the next!

West Ham game forgotten now is it?

We ran into a Palace team that are absolutely on fire tonight, and we looked shell shocked. This was always going to be the toughest test we had left, from here on out it’s got to be three points every week.

Including Man Utd away?

Some right fucking wankers crawl out on here when things have gone wrong, just waiting in the wings

Don't think that's entirely accurate of all, I'm one of Howes cheerleaders, best manager we've had in ages, but tonight it's been shite from all, his choices to start were questionable, and the game plan was none existent, why we didn't alter sooner has cost us, time and time people continue to point out its his lack of response, reactive not proactive.

We havent been good. Most of our players bar Bruno has been pretty crap. He hasn't been great either seeing as he's eventually realised he has to do it himself if we are going to get forward and ends up trying too much, but i guess the alternative is to pass to Longstaff.

Not too surprising though and people yelling "eddies's shit" etc seems a bit OTT. We are still starting so many average squad players with all the injuries. Burn, Murphy, Krafth, Longstaff are not great players, so we are relying on a few players to pull something out of the bag and it didnt happen for us tonight. Also that was a pen, and at 1-1 it could have gone anywhere. Commentators going on like Crystal Palace have been Barcelona dominating us is ridiculous, it was pretty even and a couple of bounces the right way we would have won it.

Just find it a bit ridiculous the people shouting LONGSTAFF SHOULD NEVER START AGAIN. He's the 6th choice central midfielder, he's limited and short on confidence and i also think he is getting worse every game recently. But if we are playing 3 central midfielders do you bench him and start Joe White? He is what we've got and if Eddie Howe doesn't think he should be thrown to the wolves then he will start the next game which I'd expect him to.

Amazed we didn't lose by more tbh the amount of times Eze had Krafth exposed.

As great as Eze was/is. He’d have actually frustrated me tonight as a Palace fan. Lost count of the times he beat Krafth or one of our defenders 1 on 1. Then decided to have 5 more touches and not cross or shoot. Then the attack coming to nothing.

ASM levels of overplaying and trying to skin our entire team

We've been bullied from start to finish tonight, they won comfortably while giving their best player a 60 minute rest.

6th probably gone now, to be honest if funds are limited in the summer it's probably best we don't get Europe and have another season building the squad and establishing an identity, because it's certainly not pressing and intensity anymore.

Don’t forget we still have United to play. That game defines 6th, so if we’re up for it like we were last time we beat them at OT, our goal difference gets us Europe.

Howe’s brain needs to be studied whenever he’s bringing Ritchie on.

If that’s Bruno getting tugged back in the box he wins it. Longstaff would actually be useful if he could win fouls.

Only had the pleasure of the radio tonight, so not the best informed, but it sounded like a bad performance to go along with most on the road this season. We got away with it at Fulham but not at Chelsea and not tonight when there's far more quality in front of us. Eze et al are clearly on fire so if we're that much off our game we won't have a prayer.

Still, three points out of Spurs and Palace is better than going unbeaten but only amassing two. I got a carried away as much as the next person, but if any of us really thought it would be a straightforward march to 6th, we can't have tuned in for much of this season.

Big chance to course-correct on Saturday, just got to focus on that now. Bloody team.

Infuriating just watching him strut about like he had a 3-4 yard force field round him for twenty mins at the start of the second.

Wouldn’t have been that much more from us to grind out a shite 0-0 either which would’ve been fine. So fucking frustrating.

Also fair to say Palace are playing decent stuff and well in form, they have some really decent players.

They had more than us out on the pitch tonight, that was kind of obvious after about 20 mins. It really is a game of numbers, too many of our players were aspiring youngsters or not very good squad fillers.

Poor that, unfortunately.  One of those ones where the manager and players just got it badly wrong from the first minute to the last.  Hate these passive away performances this season.

Onwards and upwards

How good do you actually think we are?

I mean look at our keeper and backline..  And Longstaff has been playing injured in what is a vital position of the pitch.

Bullied us and pressed us all over the pitch.  Couldn't get close to Eze and our CB's couldn't deal with Mateta.

It was always going be a difficult match, every PL game is.

MOTM for us? Is there really one?

Bruno the only one trying to force the issue, as always. But was below his usual standard.

Isak looked good the 5-6 times we got him the ball

first of all we need to have funds allowed to spend under FFP

Then the owners are going to have to get their arses into gear in the summer. I think they will, but let's see

Poor to a man, Bruno probably our best player but even he doesn't deserve more than a 6 as he lost possession in key areas and had a few wayward passes.

I don't think that system worked at all tonight, Palace look quick and aggressive and their high press was akin to us at full strength last season. Need to put this one to bed and smash SU at the weekend.
