"Mitchell leaves with the full respect of the hierarchy, technical team, coaching staff and players. His exit is not expected to impact the summer’s transfer business with the club having already identified clear targets during meetings over a number of months."

Story up on the Athletic now

I'd much rather believe we're in the shite.. thank you very much.

I know it isn't the fashionable thing to do anymore, but the way I see it, if Howe was just a DoF and not also a Manager, he (with Nickson anyway) would be as coveted as anyone we'd be considering

Oh aye, of course, and I'd take somebody with Howe's football acumen and eye for a player over these faceless suit types every single day of the week.

My issue with it is the club has to be set up eventually to be able to operate independent of who the head coach is. I think it is almost impossible to set up the club that way while he's here, so it's a bit of a catch 22.

Feels like this may have been in the works a while and delayed until the season was concluded, given the timing. First day back at work after the last game.

Aye, although it makes me wonder why it's 'end of june' and not with immediate effect.

Probably a disagreement on targets and so on. Think Howe wants more say, power and control on targets. Not even sure he can work with a Dof   (Not saying he doesn’t). Could also be other reasons. But yeah I imagine Howe being an extreme control freak. Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily (most times at least). Or Paul has just been shit. Fuck knows.

Im very surprised.

Great news. More power to Eddie Howe is fantastic. Gutted for the lads who just wanted cheap forrins though. :pow:

In bits when everybody's expecting moneyball forrins and Eddie just blows the entire budget on two Cumbrians in Trafford and Branthwaite instead.

Yeah definitely. You essentially need another Howe in that position for when he eventually leaves, but then you'd also expect them to move with Howe.

To be fair, we've gotten the role wrong to this point so...

The job of Mitchell and the like should be to set the entire philosophy of the club, think Ajax think Barca. Yet both Ashworth and Mitchell appear to have been negligent in this area.

We've got Eddie Howe for that.

Not fussed about him leaving in terms of transfers as they look after themselves to a certain extent through our scouting system and role of agents.

More concerned that we need someone in place to oversee infrastructure development, academy, medical department and women's team, etc.
