He's not shit. He's just been playing shit for us. Probably because he joined a squad that was in confusion due to Isak being a cunt, the team then got off to a slow start and Elanga's been struggling for form and had some sections of fans on his back during games. He might turn it round, he might not. Time will tell. If you read my first post, the comparison with AOB was more that if he doesn't start to show some basic technical skills the worst case is players just don't pass to him, not that he's as shit as AOB. I'm definitely not directly comparing them ability wise, more an example of an ultra fast winger who lacked technical skills. Largely agree with what you're saying, although Isak being a cunt or being at a different club doesn't tally with a complete drop off in the basics in my mind. Time will tell cos I think we've no choice but to persevere with him now, as I said I'd love to be proved otherwise but he's been so, so underwhelming this far I can't help but massively doubt it. Yeah, I read that post too and I didn't think you were comparing O'Brien to Elanga in a like for like way. I just don't think it was logical to compare the principle of "team mates won't pass to him" between the two players. Elanga has proven himself capable at the highest level, he's just been shit for us. Whereas Alan O'Brien was an unproven player who bounced around the lower leagues after barely playing here. Only connection is that both were rapid. We've had plenty who've come here as proven top flight players and been dogshit I just hoped those days were behind us as we've had a great hit rate since the takeover, but then the reality is that it's inevitable that some signings just won't work out. Chris Wood being the most obvious example of recent years. Edited January 5 by bobbydazzla
TaylorJ_01
Can't remember much about Alan O'Brien other than being fast, so looked him up. Quite a few are in agreement with the above will need to find some videos
HaydnNUFC
Could not for the life of me recall Alan O'Brien in any way, shape or form. Quick gewgle and his first team debut was my first ever match. Still none the wiser.
Adam P
3 hours ago, Holmesy said: I hope you're right and I wish I had your confidence. If anyone can turn him into a player, it's Eddie but he has his work cut-out. How do you teach a £50m experienced international winger how to control a football? His 23/24/25 highlights show some excellent touches, great crosses, goals from angles and distance. The set up at Forest was tactically easy, they were underdogs for most of his time there so they played a low block (a more limited range of movements for an attacker) and were primed every training session to work the ball into pace exploiting breaks. His highlights at Forest are nearly 100% long balls / on the break. The set up here is different and is also in flux this season, to the extent that how we should play from game to game from a season / squad / injuries management perspective is not even clear to Eddie. For me, we have struggled with our 'season plan' not our game plans. If that sounds contradictory, its probably because it is but the two are in tension. What makes sense from a season long perspective this year, clashes with our identity and optimal gameplans where intensity has to be managed. Elanga unfortunately is clearly not experienced enough to adapt easily to this complex environment. Its not control of the football, its information overload primarily. Eddie constantly talks about it, being careful to manage it and also praising players for their ability to retain large amounts of instructions. Sibierski
Is he back for this game? Said other week this was the ideal run for him to find form, but if ends up missing Palace / Leeds / Bournemouth home games, that boat will have sailed. Not sure how he then gets a proper chance because the other three wingers will always be favoured ahead of him, so it’s 10-15 mins at best coming off bench, where it’s hard to get anything going. Always will love Murphy, but his performance on Sunday showed why we needed a RW. And that will always be the case for 2nd of season because he’s ahead of Elanga

Astroblack
It's okay, he's a god fearing Christian and wears rosary beads, smiles, good lad. Who cares if he doesn't score, he's a good guy. That's all that matters.

But he’s the third most expensive signing in our history or whatever and has contributed virtually nothing in his first 5 months at the club. You can understand why folk aren’t loving him.
