He look devoid of any confidence - seems to be getting worse each time he plays

He's already had one shit experience at a big club, that's probably in his head. We all know his limitations but he's nowhere near this bad.

No matter how good we get, there are some that will always need a boo boy. There have been far better players than Elanga who've been that player.

As Deka said on AWSF recently, it happened to Robert despite him having 15 odd assists for the season.

The the crowd thing is so bad and a bad look on the SJP crowd.

Totally agree but there also comes a point where he’s got to offer something. Anything

£55m and he couldn’t look less like a footballer if he tried. He’s been fucking appalling.

I am sorry but to survive at this level you have to be able to take a bit of stick.  He's on big money here and he's not delivering. He's got to take some responsibility for that.

I agree. But at some point.  As a fan. Looking at a player that is trying. Shouldn’t we make an even bigger effort to support him?

First match I saw him play for us shook me. Didn’t look a player at all. Every game since he’s further proved it. Consistently poor first touch and short passing. Can’t beat a man.

So it’s established he’s shit. Cool. Now let’s try and get the bed version of him.  He’s not the answer.  But he’s all we have.

When I think I’ve clocked a players level. I just accept it if they are trying their best.

It’s a two way street for me.

I genuinely think his career is over here. That’s not hyperbole it’s purely that he’s sooooooo limited technically and everyone has seen just how bad he can be, there will now be a predisposition to him.

I hope I’m wrong by the way but I cannot see how he develops a credible career here and, if he does, then massive respect to him.

100% agreed.  Some of the lads around me used to take the piss when I’d constantly defend Robert.  Standard homophobic ‘joking’ accusations etc.  All because the lad wasn’t running around enough for them - despite his output.

The concern for me is that the lad is shrinking visibly in front of us at present - I feel desperately sorry for him, but that also tells me he doesn’t have anything like an ‘elite’ mentality.  He looks like he wants the ground to open and swallow him.  I’d be exactly the same - because I also wouldn’t have want it takes mentally to become a top level footballer.

Yep - agreed - it’s verging on cruel but it’s his job. What he’s paid to do.

I fear you might be right.

Or Alan Shitth, Andy Faye, Xisco, Riviere or Jack Cuntback

Amdy Faye is the worst player I've ever seen play for us but then again he did only cost £1.5m

I don't think it's ethical for Howe to keep playing him at home.

It's not really any good for Elanga, he needs to just be played in some easier away games so he can build some confidence.

It's also not fair to his teammates, imagine being Bruno, exhausted and fighting and your new 55 million winger teammate who is supposed to be one of the fastest players in the league who came on 2 minutes ago isn't closing down with his pace (again), then in another instance moments later he can't control the ball and loses possession (again) and then you're running to try and stop a Man City attack

Tonight seemed like a watershed moment, it was insanely toxic and it was obvious Elanga was upset.

I’m still at a loss as to how giving the kid stick at the game helps, like.  It’s always annoyed me - save it for the bar after the match.

He’s flopped. Looks nothing like a footballer. I’ve seen nothing to suggest he can do a job here since he arrived (maybe a very quick groundskeeper)

There was a diagonal ball he brought down in his stride with a lovely first touch and switched it out wide.

It went downhill quite rapidly after that.

Ganthony Obertanga

He's short in confidence because he's underperforming, but then again, we are a disjointed mess this season, transitioning away from the team that he would excel in. He would have tore teams to shreds playing for us a couple seasons ago. Pressing hard, countering, linking up with Isak etc. But nearly all our wingers are underperforming in this new system. Should have got him earlier, or moved on to a more suitable target.
