I think these conversations do happen, or at least did in the past. We might even ask Isak and Osula about his character and what he's like as a teammate. That would feed into the strength of our desire to sign him I guess, which might lead us to pay a bit more. 

 

I don't think it would be signing him to keep Isak happy or because Isak wants to play with him as such.

If it is more likely to keep him here than yeh that should be considered, but more a minor than a major

That's essentially what I was alluding to. If he gave positive feedback and was enthusiastic about the idea of teaming up with him.

 

Not necessarily just signing him just because of Isak, or to make him happy per se.

Given how close the squad seems to be, I don't think it's a bad question. You'd also have insights into their character. 

 

I realise there's a school of thought that all players are just mercenaries, but when push comes to shove, they're young men as well and you'll tend to want to play better for your mates, see Bruno/Joelinton.

There's obviously other targets, I've got no idea why we're seemingly hung up on Anthony Elanga though.

 

The other options seem to have similar price tags and/or have just about every cartel club throwing their hats in the ring as well. Semenyo, Kudus, Mbuemo, Pedro etc. 

 

After that we are moving into unknown category, I mentioned this earlier. We'd probably be looking at the same players Forest, Bournemouth, Brighton etc are looking at to replace the overpriced PL players.

I don't believe he is worth £60m. Forest are within their rights to ask for that kinda fee, but they've done so to basically tell everyone he's not for sale. The same way we put a £150m-200m fee on Isak for the same reason.

It’d be canny annoying if we’ve been after him for a year and haven’t yet worked out if he’s actually attainable or not. Same way we all knew Pedro only wanted to live in London a month ago.

No, I just think if someone says “there are better options” (which is what was said), or one thinks that there are likely to be / must be (“surely”) alternate and better options, then one can expect to be asked for evidence for that opinion.

 

Tbh this is mainly due to a problematic culture on here of regurgitating pessimism as pure fact, not to do with your view. 
 

I was also mainly interested because I can’t really think of anyone more suitable and gettable, but i no longer watch enough European football to be informed

I was at Craven Cottage and Fulham slapped us. At home, we were 1 nil up so we had control of that game. 
 

The rest of the sides don’t play low blocks at all. So maybe the issue isn’t low blocks at all?

 

Maybe it’s just that we need more depth and options off the bench. 

 

For me it’s far more an issue of getting to the final third in the first place. Teams that press us often get joy because of the lack of composure and technical quality in different areas. Even Bruno is liable to start missing 10 yard passes in high tempo games, more so when Longstaff is in the team. Joe’s lack of technical ability hurt us in a few games last season, having the option of an effective, quick technician was sorely missing, what we’d hope Willock would be but isn’t, and at times we could do with it more in a 4321 rather than 433

Plus it would be nice to hear of some of these better value transfer targets if they are out there. Would make us all feel a lot better about not getting Pedro, Mbuemo, Delap etc. 

 

For example, some podcaster mentioned Evan Guessand, a striker/wide man that Roma and Brighton are targeting at €25 million who he thought would be a great alternative to Pedro. No idea if he's any good, but if Brighton are in there, we probably should be as well.
