Newcastle United vs. Arsenal [EFL Cup]: 05/02/25 @ 20:00 (SkySports)

That's a heck of a wrinkle to throw at them. Going with the change in formation.

I like it provided Isak looks to drop into space to help the midfield two out in our build up.

Counter attack must be his game plan which could work.

Just dont like the thought of arsenal having us hemmed In all match with the bombardment of corners and freekicks.

Howe has shat the bed. I hope this works out for him but changing our style against a team well suited to breaking low blocks down when we’ve got a 2-0 lead seems beyond risky. We should just be getting after these, playing the way we do best. Just like against all the big teams we’ve pulled off big results at home against.

Well suited to breaking low blocks down, just like they did in the away leg

Haha. I've turned them down. 6 draws in a row and Bournemouth defeat. Need to give the lads a fighting chance! 😂

Wew was headed to the airport to kidnap you. Cheers.

Five at the back, midfield overran, conceding possession, chance after chance for Arsenal, Isak ploughing a lonely furrow up front.

Wish I'd stayed at work.

That’s the spirit fella.

3 at the back then, don't like that.

Yeah I'm a big believer in playing your natural game, play to your strengths and make the opposition worry about you. This reeks of trying to defend for 90 minutes which is going to be grim to watch and if they score, we're fucked.

Hope we offer a threat up the other end. 90 minutes with 10 men behind the ball is going to be a awful.

Can imagine Arteta and Arsenal now think we're scared and will be well up for it knowing they can just send wave after wave against us.

Hope I'm wrong of course. I'm an eternal pessimist.

Interesting lineup. At face value I worry about the centre of the pitch with only 2 there. Maybe Trippier and Hall invert dynamically to support and make a three with Gordon and Murphy dropping back?

Never thought we’d see the day that he played a back 3 here, it’s a big call to make. I wonder how much Joelinton being out influenced his decision?

Going to be interesting
