That's what happens when we are a club with less pull and can't offer the same type of wages.. We need to be a bit more creative if we want to be price efficient, but that also comes with more risk.

I know this may sound hypocritical, but I have a lot more sympathy and understanding for Wissas antics in comparison to Isak.

 

Wissa is not some prodigy destined for the top. He's a lad who worked his way from the lower leagues in France, and then paid his dues at Brentford and helped them climb the pyramid for years.

 

He's 29 years old coming off the best year of his career. For him, this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity to play champions league football and get a big contract from a big club. Add to that that it seems pretty certain that he got a promise from his club to leave, and I beleive him because Brentford never denied that. If he stuck around this year and had an average season, his window to play for a big club,  and get the only lucrative contract in his career probably is gone forever. 

 

Refusing to play is never nice, but his message to the public seemed heartfelt and full of praise for Brentford as a club, and almost apologetic in tone.

 

Compare that to our rat. Isak is a 25 yr old generational talent playing for a club in the Champions league, winning trophies and challenging at the top. The club denied that they ever gave him a promise verbal or otherwise to leave.

Isak will have the pick of almost any club in the world for the next 5 years of his career if he so chose. And according to all reports, we were going to give him that opportunity next summer at the age of 26 along with a pay rise on his 3yr contract. This was NOT a once in a lifetime opportunity. And his message and behavior reflected that of a person who didn't care about burning bridges, or showing respect to the club or fans who helped build his career.

 

Very different in my books, and I dont look at his behavior the same

At the end of the day him being a dick to Brentford doesn’t matter all that much to us because he’s older and we’re going to be the biggest club he ever plays for. I’m happy that we have someone who will consider his time with us to be the pinnacle of his career.
