They might be banking on reintegrating Wissa, a bit like us with Isak. Fair play to them as they have to protect their interests.

That's fine, but we should be up to speed if that's the case, and move our sights elsewhere while there are still targets available. We can't wait on maybes or could bes.

Wissa probably goes right up to deadline day, once Brentford and Bournemouth get there replacements in.

Not ideal but probs deffo gets done, just means we don't have an out and out striker for probably first 3 games.

Leaving potentially nine points on the table looks like negligence to me

Surely it’s better to get your (current) first choice three games later than someone you deem inferior?

For what its worth, Hope says in his Isak article that we'll sign Wissa in the coming week.

I know we've heard this all before but thought I'd just mention it.

He’s been saying in the coming week for at least 3 weeks

True, but each position in the PL is worth c.£3m - and nine points could be the difference between finishing 4th and finishing 8th.

Should just give them more money to hasting the deal. Did we offer 30 million? If so offer 40 get him in and training for the long season ahead.

It doesn't matter what we offer really, they're in the same position as we are with Isak and won't let him go without a replacement.

Think they would let him go for a few extra millions. He isn't going to play for them anyways. Not really in the same position as us since they are going to have a much larger pool of players they could go after. And they won't be held to ransom because of being full of cash like we would.

I'm increasingly happy with the business we have managed to get done, but the striker situation is poor and while we've chased an Isak replacement with a degree of ambition we've seemed reliant on Wissa as our only makeshift or backup option.

In 2023-24 we missed out on European football by three points and last year we got into the Champions League on goal difference. Nothing is decided at the start of the season but those marginal differences can cost the club anywhere between £20-30 and £100 million. Going without a striker for the first few games does then start to seem negligent and it also doesn't tally with the idea that we can't afford a 'miss' in the transfer market. The miss in this case is a failure to act.

I really like Wissa and think he’ll be excellent for us, but if we lose the first three games, it’s going to be an almighty stretch to think we’d have won them if he’d been playing.

The main bit I don’t understand in all this, if Brentford have a price they will sell at, i.e £40m, then it shouldn’t matter at all if they have to get a replacement first. The guy isn’t training, not going to be playing first few games, so if we offer £40m and caveat it with we’ll walk away and not come back if it’s not accepted, surely gets it done?

Like if Liverpool offered us £150m for Isak, he’d be packed off instantly, we wouldn’t turn it down because we want to get someone first when he’s offering nothing to us right now.

I think they may have been more open to that of they hadn't lost Mbuemo and Frank. As it stands I can understand there need for a replacement first, as rather than just fighting for Europe, it's there place in the league they're probably worried about.

I’m sure I’ve read that £50m is their equivalent of our £150m. I wouldn’t go near that personally.

We get 7 points from the first 3 games. We have a very very good team. Don't let the Isak bollocks sway you.
