They'll obviously keep ramping the price up. Anyone watching the match on Friday can see exactly what we're desperate for, this was always going to be the issue when we started the season with no Wilson replacement.

A competent striker is potentially the difference between 5th and 10th for us as things stand, clubs know this.

Brentford are continuing to block Yoane Wissa's move to Newcastle, talkSPORT understands.

The Bees view new signing Dango Ouattara as their replacement for Bryan Mbeumo so won't sanction the sale of Wissa without signing a new forward, or unless the Magpies up their bid to £60million plus.

Newcastle are set to resume talks this week knowing they have player buy in.

But they are not expected to offer above £40m given Wissa's age, 28-years old, and the fact he has one year left on his contract.

Brentford retain a club option to extend his deal by a further year.

Manager Keith Andrews worked closely with Wissa last season and is hoping he stays.

Wissa is understood to believe an exit will be sanctioned, although Brentford sources insist it is currently more likely he stays

We'll have to move for Jackson at a similar price point then in that case. Wissa is the better player but £60m on a 29 year old aint happening for us.

At this stage I’d be happy with either. Wissa for guaranteed goals, Jackson to see what Eddie can do with him in our set up. Obviously at the right price option 1 is the best.

Don't think £60m on any striker is happening if we want another signing on top this late in the window.

The free transfer option of Vlahovic / Mitrovic probably become more appealing to the club, or a loan with option to buy. Feels the Ramsey signing was an inidcation towards that, because he can play LW and Gordon ST, which reduces the desperation to sign a £60m+ striker we're not fully sold on (even if not ideal). Messing up the striker signing for big money will do us long term damage.

Time to move on?

Unless we're willing to offer what most of us would consider to be 'daft' money, I'd say we pretty much have to. Can't blame Brentford, like. How much for Jackson again?

Still think this gets done, it'll be Brentford trying to squeeze every last penny from us.

It's the kind of hardballing I expect from us when Liverpool come knocking for Isak.

I expect us to refuse any offer without comment.

Really disappointing if we can't get this one sorted but it seems unlikely that they can really expect a fee like that. I wonder if they're just trying to get us up to £45m from ~35. I'd be surprised if they're not willing sellers given his precarious contract situation and their modus operandi being to sell at big profits.

You knew more than most reporters, then. All last week it was claimed that he’d release Wissa.

Igor Thiago is their only striker, Ouattara played there for Bournemouth but he's not a striker. Either way, this looks tiring and we are running out of time.
