Wissa isn't worth £50-60 million. If a Newcastle 'tax' is being applied - time to look elsewhere.

Yeah good idea. Might be a bit late in the window for that though....

All this talk of "resale value" is baffling. Who are we hoping to sell any good player to? The only folks who could buy one of our better players are the sky 6 and the likes of Real Madrid, the former of which we don't want to strengthen.

Just buy who will do a job for us in the here and now, just not for really stupid prices.

We initially bid £25 million and have been chasing him for a month so if we're now being quoted £50-60 million it suggests that we've completely misread the situation or they've upped the price, either because it's getting late in the transfer window or because they've been forced to go higher for potential replacements.

Anyway I'm not sure why people keep talking about Wilson replacements for us. The club will be chasing any striker who they think can lead the line and unless Isak goes I think we will settle for one player.

I'm not sold on Ramos with regard to his ability or availability, Watkins is surely unavailable, and Jackson has his merits but Saturday suggested to me that we need somebody with a bit of finishing and smarts rather than a headless presser. I haven't followed Toney's availability and however unlikely perhaps we could test Palace with an offer for Mateta that would allow them to keep hold of Guehi and Eze for another season. It's really slim pickings at this point especially if we're not prepared to take a punt abroad. Somebody suggested a Greek or Turkish forward with a good name and maybe he's as good as any.

A Toney loan would be tremendous

Is it plausible that, in Jackson's case (and unlike Isak and Wissa), his price falls the closer we get to the deadline? They already have their replacements.

It is. Though PSR wise makes no difference to Chelsea now as past the deadline. Would be based solely on how much they want him out the door.

Overall though yes you’d think if not the price ideal negotiations would be smoother and quicker which is what we require to replace Wilson.

And yet some people think it's ok to let Isak go. [emoji38]

If you want a glimpse of what it will be like if we have £130m to £150m burning a hole in our pocket then look no further than here. We'd be getting quoted outrageous prices for absolute tat.

Some sanity in thread at last. Isak doesn’t leave without replacement in ideally 12 months prior.

This is all about replacing Wilson now as far as I’m concerned.

Isn't that the problem? That getting someone who will do a job automatically means really stupid prices unless you're willing to take a risk.

Aye, but that was my secondary point. Us worrying about resale value is what just seems daft.

Tbf, I think that was always the club's stance as well. I just worry that they have gone all in on a player who might not be available unless we pay stupid money.

It is criminal that a club of our stature has failed to have a single striker signed before the start of the season.

Even if Isak had not been a dick we would still have been in a precarious position.

Ultimately, the CEO should have been replaced long before now.
