A lot of our fans have backed themselves into a corner with their hysterical reaction to Isak, so now have to half-heartedly pretend to be really mad at Wissa when in reality they don't give a shit and will welcome him with open arms.

Fans are fickle and dont give a shit as long as it benefit their club, same goes for us. That said you dont see free Wissa, Ornstein on telly talking about Wissa, radio up and down trying to rattle a fanbase on every opportunity etc..

I think £60m is way too much, at 28 with a year + option for one more. Way too much, but as you say their player, so they can ask what they want.

Hes basically 29 and going away during the peak part of the season, not played Champions League football and they want more for him than city paid for Haaland.

Not a chance should we even be considering it, 30m max

They also know we happen to be pretty desperate at this point, its standard negotiation from them really

Wissa situation is incomparable to Isak, bloke was told he could leave for €30 Million, with one year on his contract, we placed a bid with his club and he goes "oh yes please", then Brentford go "nah, we don't want to until we get another striker", they sign a striker Wissa thinks "Thank fuck for that" then they say "oh we didn't mean THAT striker and we'll want £60 Mill when we get this other striker" - they've fucked him over. We have said nothing through the media. He's 29, this is his last chance at a significant move.

Isak - no indication he wanted out, sure he was reportedly miffed Mitchell canned his payrise a year ago, but Mitchell has gone and everyone understood there'd be a new deal tabled. Liverpool tap him up and they and his agent start taking the piss through the media. We say not for sale, they lowball we tell them to fuck off, media noise intensifies, Isak goes on strike (allegedly) the twat has three years left.

Do I think Wissa is right to down tools, no, but I understand it, I absolutely don't understand Isak's position.

Do I think we're hypocritical if we sign him, not a chance, will we be portrayed that way, oh definitely, via the red media shills, they can fuck off for me and I certainly won't be clutching any pearls if/when we do sign him.

There's also the small matter of "who gives a fuck about Brentford." I wouldn't even put my employment with them on my LinkedIn, let alone pics on me Insta. Mike Ashley FC but with spreadsheets.

Feel like it's vastly different.

One was promised something by the club and now going back on it because they feel like it and probably won't have many other chances to play CL football. He was literally lied to by his club.

The other acted like a cunt for no real reason and wasn't motivated by anything but his own aims.

Are they doing something similar? Sure but that's about where the similarities end, the circumstances to where both got to this point are vastly different and those circumstances matter.

We don’t really know what’s going on with Isak. Reportedly they (Amanda?) promised him a raise and then fucked that off (Mitchell?) But all we have are rumors and speculation.

Not to excuse his behavior because he has handled this extremely poorly, but it’s not fair to say we have a full picture of both Wissa’s and Isak’s motivations/reasoning.

We do know that our front office situation has been a mess for a while.

Yeh but also reality has to set in for them. We arent going to bid more for a player we considered to be lower quality than another player we tried to buy off them (Mbuemo)

Hopefully we mark this one down as another failure and move on to a loan option

75% wrong but it will come out in time as it always does. He is in the wrong, 100%, undoubtedly. However we could have handled it better

We only have ourselves to blame, everyone know we need striker, to not have multiple options lining up and fail to sign any is basically why Brentford held us for a ransom

we did have multiple options and tried going for them all.

One is 29 years old with one year left and had a promise (not seen that disputed anywhere) the other is 25 with three years left and has diddly squat.

The fact (allegedy) that Amanda offered him a raise with four years left is mental, I'm not surprised it was knocked back, it wasn't even killed dead it was we'll talk about it next year (which is now).

I don't get this argument.

Brentford are well within their rights to put on any valuation they like. If they'd rather keep him and have the remaining time from the player over the money they're well within their rights too.

See also Guehi (maybe palace don't win the cup) and use with Isak.

If anything though I see this getting worse. The PSR price inflation is getting ridiculous.

When they’ve reportedly told him last season he could go this season he could go for £25m put his price at £60m I’d mental.

Oh well, that's that then. Not paying £60M for him are we. I could've seen us going up to £40M at the very most.

That's if this is even legit reporting, could be bollocks ofcourse. Wouldn't mind hearing some rumors tomorrow of some left field option none of us have even thought about. Otherwise who knows where we'll end up come September.

The two situations are basically identical like, you have to do some serious mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion of "Isak bad/Wissa okay".

Nope, incomparable, the actions are the same but the situations that caused them aren't.

This is all true, I'm only going off what's been reported. If word comes to light Isak was given the same promises that it's reported that Wissa was then sure then it isn't that different.

But as of now I look at the two very differently and feel the circumstances behind their decisions should be treated as such.

Yeah but they're wrong. :pow:

You were joking with the Brentford stuff though yeah? Surely

 There was some discretionary tribal spice in my post, but I do care very little for Brentford. I think they are a very good identifier of what the PL is in danger of becoming these days, i.e. a 17-team league with three guests from the EFL on an annual rotation. I'm not convinced they have aspirations beyond just existing here; I think their approach to our game in the cup summed it up. You can't blame them really; they're historically a tiny club - in League 2 as recently as 2009 - but through sound business decisions have landed here just in time for the drawbridge closing. I just think that's a bit shit and hope they go down.

It's not cool that Wissa is showing them quite as much disdain, obviously. They've clearly done wonders for his career.
