Botman says hello.

Wasn’t his due to being injured, needing surgery and then worsening it by trying to nurse his way through it? It wasn’t a sudden failure.

He obviously hasn’t completely ruptured his ACL or they’d have known long before now.

That’s not to say he won’t have damaged it in some way though.

I think they know now though, he only came back yesterday

Yeah, and I don’t doubt he could have damaged it.

But if he’d completely ruptured it, I think he’d have struggled to get back here, let alone anything else.

There are different grades for ACL injuries and varying degrees of pain, swelling and mobility limitations.

I don't think he played on for 5-10 mins following the fall. IIRC there was one offensive action from Senegal before Wissa sat down following flexing his leg and clearly feeling something wrong.

I've reuploaded the video of the incident for those who are curious (old link had expired). Shows him walking, stretching and going down and also replays of the awkward fall. Not sure you can blame this on the number of minutes played, truly just shite luck.

He clearly makes the sub hand gesture in the initial part and they didnt take him off.

If he's done his ACL does his nation have any responsibility for the costs of his surgery and rehab? Just reminds me of Owen this. Bet his return will line up lovely with another international break and they'll call him up.

Absolute disaster if he's done his ACL, like. Would feel like the season's over before it's even begun if that's the case as the guy was easily our best and most vital signing this summer, despite the fee. It was crucial we had a sure thing to replace Isak's goals and even in the unlikely event Woltemade is ready for being first choice, we can't expect him to lead the line in the PL and CL and cups.

Massive responsibility back onto Gordon if this is true. I'd back him to take it but still, fucking hell.

I know you are one of the most positive posters on here. So credit to you for that. But I absolutely would not back Gordon to take his chance, or most chances in front of goal for that matter. He is dreadful as a striker.

It's crazy that he played so many minutes after training on his own all summer. Newcastle, Congo and himself should have known that. It seems like there has been total lack of communication.

In comparison, Isak played 19 minutes for Sweden.

I don't think it's misguided optimism because I'm not saying Gordon will lace Isak or Wissa's boots. But against Villa his play from that position wrought a red card from their CB, and he was fantastic against Liverpool until the moment of madness. The lad has a significant amount of raw talent so I wouldn't rank turning him into a competent CF as Howe's greatest ever challenge, like.
