Quick maffs suggests we’d have around £250m to spend if we sell Isak for £130m. If that happens, we really shouldn’t be low-balling for top targets; where it makes sense, we should go big.

100% agree.......however.....i wouldn't give Brentford £50million for Wissa.

we still owe money on Isak and Sociedad apparently have a 20% sell on fee. So I wouldn’t bank on that £250m

This time next week...

Newcastle have given up on the chase for Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has refused the offer! NUFC will now turn attention to Nicolas Jackson and Dango Ouattara #NUFC (via @FabrizioRomano)

Dango is a great shout. Just not as an Isak replacement

We probably don’t. Isak at £130m creates about £99m of PSR headroom this year (possibly less depending on the rumoured Sociedad sell-on clause). So while on paper it looks like you could do that much comfortably, the problems come in years 2/3/4 of those new players where to balance the books you’d need to be making another circa. £100m sale to keep funding the headroom for them. You’d hope a bit of that will be taken care of by revenue increased but in reality, you probably don’t want to back yourself into the corner/dial up the risk too high so an Isak sale is probably more like 3 good players at a total of £150m-£200m.

Sorry, I meant our gross transfer spend this summer (including the existing headroom) but you’re right.

Have we not learnt?

Don't ever judge a player till they've been Howed.

He's in a very similar position to Isak when he joined - bags of potential.  Just needs some great coaching.

Think Sesko signs for Man Utd after Saudi Clubs have bought 2-3 of their garbage players.

It would have to be Fernández, the rest of the trash have already refused to go and no one wants Garnacho. I think they've blown their load on Cunha and Mbeumo, I'm sure they admire Sesko but rumours are they're not prepared to bid.

I get a feeling Man U are waiting in the wings for Sesko also, that’ll be fun times.

The prospect of Sesko is exciting because of his high potential and the fact we have Howe in charge, as he tends to bring players along so well and develop them further, and so there'll be a very good chance his potential gets realised.

It also looks like he will be at the club alongside someone with Prem experience, whether that be Isak or Wissa lets say, so that there won't be a ton of pressure on him.

If he ends up at Man United I can see it going very badly, and just ending up down the same road as the Hojlund thing has.

If he has any smarts about him he'll come to us, even if he sees us as a stepping stone secretly, he will develop into a fully rounded player, Howe will extract every ounce of ability out of him.

Sesko and Idrissa Gueye from Metz. We’d have 2 top young prospects and more than enough to address other areas.

My preference though is to get Seako and negotiate improved terms for Isak to keep him on board for next season.

Must not sell to scousers and hope market is bigger for him next season.

Yeah, absolutely. They can show him the example of Isak in house right now.

However, these players are strange man. A lot of them tend to just go with what their agents tell them. And so the right agent fee/package and they can be easily swayed.

looks like we'll get a good idea of how this is going to go this week now, which will be good.

With or without Isak I'm genuinely excited with his prospect, you can see the raw talent there and he has all the physical attributes to make it in the PL, but man imagine we keep Isak and get Sesko?? We could have a crazy good season.

But yeah I get what you're saying, I'm sure he believes in his own ability and thinks he can lead the line at Man Utd and the cash that they could throw at him would be enough to turn anyone's head.

I think if Isak goes, one of the strikers will be from the Prem and the other a younger prospect from abroad. Don't think we'll bring in two strikers from outside the Premier league.

I've seen some mentions of Mika Biereth, the former Arsenal kid, that is at Monaco now as another we might look at if Sesko doesn't pan out. The sources so far haven't been great though so not sure how concrete that is, but wouldn't be surprised if he'd be considered as well.

Same here. There's been so much interest in Sesko this just feels like another one of those where once we make a move it will bring the lurkers out of the woodwork.
