We have but not in a significant way All clubs have misses in the market no issues on that front.

The point in making is more a long the lines of we have to targer players who can kick on and go up another level, I'm OK with Wissa as a rotation up providing the fee isn't daft but 65m on Larsen would have Wolves pissing themselves. Decent player no doubt but not one who's going to improve much or has outstanding qualities imo.

Almost everyone we sign goes up another level though? That’s what we’re really good at.

i couldn’t tell you what another level for strand Larsen looks like, I’ve barely seen him play enough to judge that (I doubt anyone on this forum has tbh), but if Howe thinks he has a better chance with him than a Jackson (for example) then that’s ok with me. His track record is shit hot.

Nothing, you’re right. We’re fucked [emoji38] but it’s true.

I would like us to really add elite players at CB and CM to up the overall quality of the squad but I can’t see it. Sesko may have been the one.  You’re right we have to do something but we are going to be hugely weakened because of it

my take is (based on nothing but sheer blind positivity😂) we’ll score more goals this coming season than we did last.

I mean we need to replace Isak with a player who can hopefully get to the same level. Larsen isn't that imo. He's a tidy player I like him but he's not a player who you'd expect to be starting for a CL Pushing side. And 65m?

yeah, the £65m thing would look crazy.

I’ll be honest though, my opinion on this changes like the wind. It’s got my head done in.

We were too heavily reliant on Isak last season. When he was firing, we were firing but when he was out of the team or unable to get into games, we struggled. Bringing in 2-3 players capable of scoring double figures should, in theory, make us a better team all round. Of course, keeping Isak and bringing in a couple of players who could take the whole burden off him would have been preferable but that seems increasingly unlikely. Who knows, we might look back on him leaving and see it as a blessing rather than a kick in the tits, if it enables us to build a deeper, more flexible squad

we haven’t pissed anything up the wall since Howe has been in charge. We won’t be starting now.

But we’ll only be able to have this conversation in hindsight, we’ll just have to see how the replacements do I guess.

my bet is, whatever combo we go with, they beat the combo of last season in terms of a goal return.

Yeah, would be happy with whatever approach they choose to go with as I can see the attraction to each option.

With Wissa and Strand Larsen I can't see us dropping off at all in the Prem even with the one whose name we will no longer mention leaving.

Samu may need a bit of an adjustment period in the short term and it could cost us here and there, which could end up being more costly come the end of the season, especially with Spurs and Man United more likely to bounce back this season now.

Lets see what they opt for. Personally, think we'll be fine either way.

Aye definitely I know we aren't left with fantastic options, Samu represents major risk however I think we have to roll that dice at least he has elite athleticism and is young so can still improve.

I don’t have too much to say on Samu as I’ve barely seen him. I’m not too bothered about who we bring in. I’d like Wissa as I know he has natural finishing ability and instincts. We will create chances so I’m not worried at all. He is underrated. I assure you that if he was slightly younger and say Brazilian or Dutch or whatever then he would be more respected and higher rated. Can’t convince me otherwise. Aye aye, but it doesn’t make him a lesser player now or in the near future.

I’ve said it before, that we can’t get a striker as good as Isak, and we don’t need to. If we get one that is 20% “less” but we strengthen properly in other areas and improve the starting 11/squad then we can compensate and be another say 30% better off over a season.

I’ve seen Isak since he was a kid. There’s absolutely no denying that he has developed into an elite player. At his very very best last season he was absolutely unplayable at times. Having said that, let’s also not forget that in quite large parts during the last couple of seasons he has either been injured or looked unfit when playing. There’s been plenty of games where he hasn’t looked elite or his form being anywhere near his best.

Yes a player like Wissa for example doesn’t have a ceiling as high, no doubts here. But you also cannot underestimate the reliability of a player that looks fit for most of the season. I’m also aware that every player can have a drop of form but with Isak it’s not just about that.

Bringing Wissa in also means whoever we bring in as the Isak "replacement" doesn't have to hit the ground running because we've got a guy we know we can rely on to be productive in the Premier League.

In that situation you can bring someone like Aghehowa in and give him time to develop - doing what we have done successfully in the past and make a move for a player who still has question marks and needs work. Like others have said, if we wait another year and he scores 20 goals this season, he'll be out of reach.

Samu does look primed to be improved massively by Howe imo.

This is it - looks a proper talent - looks to have all the attributes to succeed in the PL.  Only just gone 21 as well.

It's not exactly prohibitive if Isak is out the door for ~£150m, but that's a big if.

I'd argue it's too steep for someone who could just end up like Nunez. No guarantees this kid will be worth such a steep price. Striker market is fucked like

Even with Isak money I don’t think we’ll spend £80m on a gamble

Yeah do agree. It's looking likely it'll just be Wissa in the foreseeable unless something is happening out the spotlight. Find it hard to believe though with endless leaks but we shall see.
